Hi Everyone! Got to see the Endocronoligist yesterday! My persistance paid off. What a great guy! When i saw his degrees on the wall, and saw that we were from the "same neck of the woods", (actually, the NEXT TOWN), and I heard the same accent as I'm "told I still have!), I felt very calm, and confident! He had my records in front of him, and I didn't have to fill out the customary forms of family history....he sat across from me, and asked me questions!!!!! Just like the good old days. What a blessing! He told me that the Novalog 70/30 mix pen, is definitly NOT for me! Just like so many of you said right here. He started me on Byetta, and I took my first shot before dinner this evening. I'm still taking the 1000 dosage of Metformin twice a day, also. Now, being the somewhat neuotic, hypochondriac that I am.....I find myself LOOKING for adverse reactions to the Byetta! So...right now, I feel a bit unsteady, some perspiration, and the general feelings that go along with an anxiety attack! I truly wish I could just STOP doing this to myself. If the Byetta is all that it is cracked up to be.....it will be the most wonderful thing since sliced bread, (whole wheat, of course). I want so much for it to work for me. I have also become aware that there might be some financial assistance for my prescriptions! I'm working on that now. Any feedback about the Byetta is much appreciated. Nancy:dontknow:
Sorry, I can't help you with med information. However congratulations on finding such a caring, understanding doctor!!! Sometimes that can make the difference. It will take time but soon you will be breezing along and not remember a time when you were so nervous about your meds! :elefant:

Congratulations on finding such a wonderful Endo! That's wonderful news. :)
Did your Endo put you onto any other insulin to substitute for the Novolog, or just the Byetta and Metformin?

:elefant: Glad the meds seem to be working for you, Nancy. I haven't heard anything bad about Byetta yet. Are you taking insulin still or just byetta and metformin? I've heard byetta is for non-insulin dependent and symilin for insulin dependent. I'll be talking to my doctor next week and want to at least know what to ask for.:stupid:

Good luck with the Byetta, Nancy. Keep us posted on how it's working out for you. Before going on the pump, I was using NPH in the morning and 70/30 at dinner. This combination worked for me, but I did experience too many lows after dinner.

Well, i've been taking the Byetta since Thursday P.M. Of course I was hoping for a lower reading, but not yet! At least not a significant drop. I haven't experienced any side effects, and I'm just going on doing what I'm suposed to. I guess it takes longer in some people to notice a change. Nancy

I am happy that you got the drugs you were looking for and hope you soon see the results you were looking for, too. I don't know much about the drugs you are on, so I don't want to offer any silly advice.
I hope it works out for you well. And please keep your kittens away from Finn's precious rats. Jeesh. Those rats are our friends. The kitties can chase spiders if you have any of them, because spiders are scary, but Finn's rats are our friends. We don't eat our friends, do we? I hope not.

I'm still over 200 in the AM, but the post meal reading have gone down to within the "normal" range. Yippee! No real sid effects except for a little heartburn, not really worth mentioning. It's nice not to be on insulin anymore. Just the byetta and Metformin. Don't worry, I don't think my indoor cats will get anywhere near Finns rats! The rats would probably win anyway!!!! My kitties are scared of each other!!! :elefant:

I've been away from the board for awhile. I went to see a doctor today (not my regular doctor) and he mentioned Byetta. What is it and what will it do for me. This doctor swears by it, but he isn't my doctor, so I need info please.

Still on the Byetta, and waiting for it to kick in. I'm still well over 200 evry AM, and my post meal levels are anywhere from 139-205. Still take my metformin 2x a day. I'm curious whether or not anyone else has experienced the highs still, while taking the initial 5mcg of Byetta???????? I see the Endo on 4/5. I'm tracking everything I eat, and there is no problem there. nancy
