Hello everyone, I am a type 1 diabetic (three years now) and I was just wondering if anyone new how to find a GOOD endocrinologist ... I currently see one who is 45 minutes away from me and he makes me feel like a burdon on his day, and everyone else there is so mean! Lets just say it makes me not want to go to the doctors. I am having the hardest time trying to find a good doctor close to home! I am from Eastern Massachusetts .. specifically New bedford so If anyone from around here has any advice it would be much appreciated. Thankyou :flowers:

I guess we should start with where are you from? Then maybe there will be a member on here that lives near you that could highly recommend one. And welcome to the site. I hope to see you around alot.

Do you have ANY doctors you respect and like? an Eye doctor, Pediatrician, Dentist, ANYONE? I usually find that good Doc's make the best recommendations. Sure, they recommend their friends, but if they are good doctors their friends are usually good doctors. (at least that has been my experience) You may also be limited by which doctors your insurance covers. If you go on your insurances website they will probably have a way for you to search for in-network specialists. Then just go and try them out. Just because you go to to a doc once doesn't mean you are stuck with them for the long haul. Good luck! And I hope somebody who lives near you will be able to give you more specific advice.

I live in RI but I am not familiar with any doc's in New Bedford. Try calling your local hospital's CDE office and ask them for a referral. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

My wife has worked in various ER's off and on over the years. If you want to know who the good doctors are, ask a RN (especially if you know one), they'll usually give you a straight answer. A doc may not ("professional courtesy").

Erin's and Ritehsedad's advice makes sense.
And WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

Doesn't one of the Hospitals in Boston specialize in juvenile diabetes? The name escapes me right now, but I'm sure I've read about it. That might be a place to start.

I have two endos i see one at school and one at home and they are both extremely good at what they do and very nice. My Endo at yale is renowned and the head of his department. My Endo in New hampshire is very knowledgable and very helpful and avaible if neccicary.
