View Full Version : Odd reaction to Reese's

Hi. Since last night I've been having what seems to be some mild insulin resistance (i.e. my BGs seem to stabilize at 150, I give myself a correction bolus, sugar drops to below 100, and my postprandial jumps up and stays at 150 and I have to do yet another correction bolus).

My BG is almost ALWAYS sub 100, as I am ubervigilant about testing (avg. 10-12 times a day), and am just kind of concerned why this is happening (I've replaced my infusion site and reservoir 3 times already).

Any thoughts?

I was also kind of curious because I've noticed this behavior twice now, not necessarily tied to the 24 hours of odd insulin resistance I've been happening, but a delayed, extra unexpected spike from eating a Reese's Peanut Butter cup to correct a hypoglycemia.

E.g. package says only 22g carbs, yet it makes me jump from 50 to 157, and with a time delay of like an hour. Can this be from the concentration of saturated fat?

I'm very grateful to have found this forum, btw. This is my first post.

If it's any help, I'm 29 years old,
diagnosed T1 in 1/78
pumping since 12/01

Welcome aboard... Just a thought, did you try a new vial?

I try and stay away from anyting with peanut butter to correct a low...The fat does definately slow the absorption of sugar for me.

Thanks for all the replies. This forum rocks.

To answer your question, yes I used a different vial, because the first one I used was from home and the second was from work. Oddly, my problems continued until I got home, so I changed the infusion site ONE more time, and I stayed at a good 70 all night long (I get up and test every two hours when I sleep, it's like a built in reflex I have, don't ask...)

I'm eating my steel cut whole grain oats right now so I'll test in like two hours and hopefully this won't spike me too much. We'll see...
