I have been experiencing some chest pain for a few weeks, and on saturday i had some really bad stomach pains. Went over to the doctor and he suspects its Gastroesophageal Reflux...which is basically when some food comes up your esophagus and causes pain. Im taking Nexium once a day, for 30 days. Now, i was reading that this causes symptoms to those of a heart attack..such as bad chest pain. Im really worried if i've been mis-diagnosed or something...and that i've been suffering from something heart related even though the doctor doesnt think so. I've been a diabetic (type 1) for around 5 years now, and my HbA1c's have been sitting below the 8 throughout the whole 5 yrs. My last HbA1c was 6.1. Im only 16, so if it is heart related..i dont know how it came about. Im still quite young.:bawling:
My control is pretty good, but im still worried. Any suggestions/help?:frown:

I'm impressed with your control of your bg level starlight.
About heart attack I wouldn't worry too much if your doc said you shouldn't. As much as people love to complain about them, health professionals usually know what they are talking about. Also chest pain that is caused by heart attacks don't last for weeks but rather minutes or hours, another reason not to worry too much about it. Just keep your doc updated about how you are feeling and listen to his advice.
Best of luck and I hope you will feel better soon.
Corwin.

I'm having very similar symptoms Starlight.
Sometimes I get what feels like a little catch in the lower part of my chest, maybe about once or twice a day, and I also have some recurring sharp pain in the right area of my chest. Having been diabetic for 28 years, I'm obviously concerned. However, after seeing my Primary Care physician, a cardiologist, and an ER visit, the etiology of the pain is still unknown. I've had an EKG - Perfect (textbook EKG as the doctor told me), Chest X-Ray - Perfect, LDL Cholesterol - 45, HDL Cholesterol - 66, Triglycerides - 48, and my A1c has ranged over the last two years between 5.8 and 6.9.
All of those factors definitely point away from any cardiac issue, and that it is most likely a pinched nerve, or maybe gastro reflux, who knows. I still haven't seen a gastro doc, but I guess I will eventually.
One thing the doctor told me that cleared my mind is that regardless of a long history of diabetes, we are NOT high risk if we take care of ourselves. And this is not take care of ourselves just watching blood sugar. We must also eat heart healthy foods too (lots of whole grains, legumes, salmon and tuna, etc.)
Don't worry man, you're fine. I know it's sketchy, but you'll be just fine. Remember that stress aggravates any condition, and if you stress yourself over the chest pain, it will merely complicate it and make it worse. Remember, you're fine.

I have had chest pain since about 1977. I have a heart murmur and believe the pain may be caused by that. It's hard not to worry with chest pain but I wuold have to guess that with your age it's probably nothing related to the heart unless it's something like the murmur.
