I have really been good about my eating for about two weeks, not just for good bloodsugar control, but for my weight issue.
Today I just could not stop eating and most of it was everything that a diabetic should totally avoid.
Out of control and wondering if you all do this?

We all do it or something similar from time to time. But did you cover?
The temptation is just to say "the H* with it" and just eat. So far, I've been able to make myself count carbs and cover for whatever I'm pigging out on.

We all indulge from time to time, I do cover, because the last thing you want is running into a Hyper. If u do.. correct.
There is a school of thought that if you go very austere and never allow yourself to eat certain foods, you will fail ultimately--esp since you set yourself up for failure by being so austere.
In Body for Life, the author's diet plan is to follow his diet parameters six days a week. On the seventh, you are basically allowed to go nuts. Many people have had good success with that kind of attitude, and ultimately, he says, you get to a point where you realize you feel so much better eating the way you eat for six days that you eat that way on the seventh as well. Who knows?

That recalls the 7 things in common to successful dieting. One of the things is to not totally restrict yourself from treats, but to reward yourself in moderation and sensibly. If you end up not having these things you love at all, then sooner or later you end up with days where your will power completely fails and you end up going overboard.
I try to keep my kids eating healthy. I try to not let them eat junk food or at fast food places, but at the same time I do not totally cut them off from treats and from fast food during special occasions. I find when they are completely prohibited from certain foods, that if they are given the opportunity, they will over-indulge in these prohibited foods.

Sure, I've done that :embarass. And the funny thing is, I don't really enjoy overeating when I'm doing it , and yet it's hard to stop. But being that I consider myself an emotional eater...sometimes it's bound to happen.
Lately, it's been happening less and less. I think I know that eating to numb my feelings, or what have you, isn't going to make things better- it mostly will cause more problems (like with blood sugar) and will make me feel even more crappy :argh:. You wouldn't believe the guilt I feel at times when I feel out of control. It's frustrating.
The best way to eat is in moderation. I'm the type of person who goes to extremes, so it's not easy, but I'm working on it. Don't deprive yourself too much, but don't overdo it either. Find a way to incorporate some of the foods you like inmodest amounts. I think it's possible to do that. If you slip up, which we all do, just make sure to cover it- like everyone suggested. That's actually what my CDE/dietician said to. I had what I call "mini binges"in the past and she said that if that happens make sure to cover it with insulin and move on. Don't beat yourself up. :boxing:
Hang in there :)

Yep,
you have to let yourself go "Nutz" every once in a while.
JUst make sure, as mentioned before, to cover what you eat.
Enjoy yourself.

I thought I was the only one! I totally overdid it this w/e cause of stress. Had a Cinnabon on the trip back from Md and a brownie, too. I covered them which is something I was not always good about in the past.:ahhhhh:

If I don't get back on the bandwagon soon, I am going to keel over from sugar high. I have been exercising and covering for my indulgence......but you all know what that will do for me. :elefant:

I've done it a few times when I've gone real low. It was like an excuse to stuff myself with all the great tasting cake and cookies and whatever else was within reach. I kept eating as fast as I could, barely tasting the stuff as it went down, until my BS got over 100, telling myself that I hadn't eaten enough yet because I was still low. Of course, my BS kept on climbing to about 350 before I took a shot to bring it down. Actually, about 3 shots to bring it down. I completely lost track of the total carbs I had eaten. The first shot was never enough. After about the third time I did this my wife cleared the cupboards and refrigerator of all treats. Just tossed them in the trash. Set out containers of glucose tablets for emergencies. I never overdose on those things.
Something I remember fondly from my pre-diabetic days (dx'ed at age 25) was eating two banana splits in one sitting. It was at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. They had something called The Trough, which was a huge banana split for which they awarded a toy pig to anyone who finished it and made a big public deal about it. My friend challenged me to eat The Trough. I told him I would eat two regular banana splits instead because I didn't want the pig award and all the hoopla. I ate them and, of course, my friend pointed out to the waiter that I had eaten the equivalent of a trough, so I got the treatment anyhow.
Now the only time I get a banana split is when I slice one for cereal. I absolutely have not been able to control my BS for ice cream. It always goes whacky and I've just given up trying. Sigh.
Yes, I've done that. Actually I find it easier to bolus for a pint of Ben and Jerry's than for an actual meal. ;)
So long as you "cover" your indulgences you're not hurting yourself... as far as the big D is concerned.
That said, I actually don't pig out anymore. After about a year of eating 100% **** (making up for 10 or so years on the "traditional" diabetic diet) I realized I felt like **** (the saying you are what you eat really holds meaning) and I got back on the healthy food bandwagon. I still had the occasional out and out junk-food-fest, but not every day or even every week.
Now I have an even MORE healthy system. I eat what I want, when I want. And usually what I want is good food. I keep only healthy food, and the really decadent junk food around the house. If you only keep the *really good stuff* you don't want to pig out on it, you want to savor and enjoy it. It's way more satisfying.
I also keep healthy choices for when I am being an emotional eater... usually in those cases I'm eating just to eat, and it doesn't really matter WHAT I'm eating. I do carrots and hummus, olives and cheddar cheese (don't knock it till you try it!), low fat popcorn, and other "guilt free" indulgences around for those times.
The key is knowing WHY you're eating. If you're eating cause you want a treat, eat a treat. If you're eating because you're hungry, make yourself a sandwich or soup or something. If you're eating because you had a bad day at work, eat a small treat, and then really crunchy, yet low carb / low fat food.
