I was just wondering if you ever experienced panic attacks when you see that you are around the value of 80. I dont know why but i began to feel panic when i see that my value is around 80 and i eat some sugar and then i test, test and test until i see that it began to raise.
I dont know how to get over this taking into consideration that in 3 years i was realy ok, good control. Before i was ok if i had a low i wasnt afraid but now im realy scared even if i dont have a low.
I'm T1, on lantus and humalog.

Do you live on your own?! I found that living by yourself or living with people who have no idea what to do when your hypoglycemic is much more stressful than living with someone who understands your condition and knows what steps to take to remediate the situation. I can think of at least 3 seperate times where other people (family and girlfriend) saved my life when I was dangerously low, had I been alone I wouldn't have been able to help myself and would have probably died as a result.

Hypoglycemaphobia -- It exists and know it to well. It might not be a recognized medical contidion (phobia), or word for that matter, but it exists and know exactly how awful it can be.

I can definitely relate to that. I am still in highschool and i have to go to block classes which are 90 minutes long, and sometimes(especially when i eat before class and have to take novolog) i sit there the whole time worrying over my bg and not paying enough attention to class. I usually dont like to cause a scene, or leave to go the bathroom and check. Whereas if i am home being at 80 is ok for me.

I totally feel your pain on this one - About 9 months ago, I started getting really bad panic attacks when I would get low. I would start questioning whether I took the wrong amount of insulin, or accidentally took 15 units of Humalog instead of Lantus. It's been a hard struggle, because the panic attacks are terrifying, and have made me want to keep my BGL's up high to avoid getting the lows. I haven't found any great solutions to the panic attacks, but I just wanted to let you know that someone else is going through the same thing. Good luck - let me know if you figure out any good strategies for fighting these things.

I had a mild panic attack both Saturday and Sunday because I felt low at about 75-80. I was with my husband and two kids in Toys R Us on Saturday and my kids didn't want to stop playing with the Thomas set they have on display. My husband threw his back out on Friday and couldn't do much so I was worried that I'd go low and be unable to take care of them. Luckily, there was a hot dog stand outside so I gulped one down. Sunday, lunch was delayed...we were at the park. I was dropping and I ate 1/2 of the candy bar I had in my purse and two gluco tabs.

I have had the same problem for quite some time now....I even fooled myself into thinking that higher blood sugar means that I am "safe" It has definately
contriubuted to me being so off track with my readings.Low bg is absolute ****!

Been there, done that.
Panic due to low BS definitely happens. Then what happens is when you get "near" a low BS - panic kicks in.
It truly exists, and it truly sucks.

I am totally with you!
Whenever I am going into a meeting to present; my body get's nervous and I feel like I am going low FAST! Heart rate goes up, etc. I usually shove a handfull of Skittles in my mouth walking in, for insurance.
But it's funny; any other time I do not panic. Heart rate still goes up, etc. But I am not filled with panic and dread as in the case of 80 walking into a meeting.
