I run heavy equipment(Bulldozers,Scrapers,Motorgraders) and I was wondering if
any of you do anything similar.If so what do you have for lunch:questionm

Most of the guys go grab Burritos(we are in Tucson after all.),But I shoudn't. :flute: :eating:
So my wife makes me lunch.But most of the time I get stuck w/PB&J and that's not good. :vollkomme But we don't have any other Ideas.So what do you guys do?

HI Windle :hello:

PB & J isn't the worse option, but I can see how it could get boring if eaten a lot :frown:. Have you considered seeing a dietician? It might be worth doing... Not only would a dietician be able to suggest meal ideas, but also could help in improving your control :top:.

As for lunch ideas...

A whole wheat wrap with turkey (or other lean lunch meat) and fruit

A big salad with lots of veggies, low fat dressing, and a whole wheat roll

Soup and Salad

Veggie or low fat turkey burger with veggies and fruit

Any type of lean deli meat, tuna or egg salad on whole wheat are filling lunches. Add some carrot or celery sticks and you're good to go!

I like to snacke on nuts...mostly sunflower seeds. They have equal amounts of fibre and carbs so they're basically nothing except you do need to watch the fat. Salads with some really good protien (roast chicken, shaved steak etc.) make great options too. What about a really good tex mex chillie...that's loaded with protien and lots of fibre. Anyways, just some ideas.

Are you working downtown or all over Tucson? Try LaSalsa or Rubio's, they have some lower carb/fat stuff. Maybe a naked burrito (drop the tortilla, less rice, more beans). Otherwise pack your own lunch. South Beach wraps are not bad.

Considering the heat in AZ, you really wanna stay away from packing stuff w/mayo. PB&J, raw veggies, and nuts are all great.

I pack most days. I usually have Healthy Choice meats. Stuff that is really lean. Low fat cheese, and low carb bread. If your're making it at home. Burritos sound good though. If you're going to a "sit down" restaurant for lunch you may try this. My wife and I have a favorite Mexican joint we go to. I don't get the chimi's and renellos any more. I get the chicken fajitas. Minus the guac! I buy La Tortilla Factory Low Carb Tortillas. They end up being 5gms of carbs, or 3gms if you use the smaller ones. I take them in and frap my fajitas in them. I'm on a 1/10 insulin carb ratio. So 3 wraps, fajitas, a double order of beans (wife doesn't like em.) and some rice, and unsweetened ice tea. I usually dose at 8 units. We carry one of the carb counting books with us just in case, which may list the restaurant you go to. If not you can get an idea from the others listed. We have a waiter who hooks us up. He knows I'm a diabetic, and rarely even gives us a menu. He just asks if I'll have the usual, or conveys it in my limited understanding of Spanish. He doesn't even bring the tortillas out, because he knows I have my own. No problem.

I went to a different place over the weekend, and forgot my tortillas. Went out and bought some. The waitress saw me wrapping my fajitas and thought they had a new flavor of wrap. When she asked me about it I told her I was diabetic and it was low carb. Again, no problem. People will work with you. I don't know why places don't offer more low carb alternatives, after all there are 20 million of us.

Remeber, skip the chips. Put the salsa on your meal.

I pack lunch for my fiance,

and i use one of those soft 'cooler' lunch bags, to keep things cold. usually he gets a salad (with hot chilli peppers in it to make it "manly") with dressing in a small container separate so as not to make it soggy. he also gets fresh fruit like apples/bananas that don't require packaging, and I often give him home cooked cold chicken or roast meat (chicken breast or beef grilled, sliced) saran and fixings to make into a sandwich.

he is SUPER picky about soggy food, so I wrap all sandwich ingrediants separatly with saran. (meat in one, greens in another, bread pre-spreaded in another). He often works long days in the heat, and the cooler food doesn't last so long.

for snacks on long days, I also pack him banana bread (made with nuts and bran), or pretzels, and small bags of nuts.

we have also had a root vegetable salad (think potato salad, but its carrots, beets, sweet potato, etc with an olive oil pesto instead of a mayo mix).
