Hi everyone,

Ive been taking Novomix since I was diagnosed in Feb 06, but on Wednesday was changed to Novorapid and Insultard.
I took 18 units of Insultard last night and was 7.1 this morning. Took 5 units of Novorapid with 2 slices of toast. (Same as other days since Wednesday!)
Did a strenous walk and tested about 15 mins before lunch, and was 2.5. I had 2 glucose tablets and tested 15 mins later and was 5.1. I usually need to take about 6-7 units at lunch to cover cheese sandwich and banana.
I panicked and just took 4, because I was worried it would go down again (still got a couple of miles to walk). Tested after 2 and a half hours and it was 10.1.
Sorry for the ramble, but my question is, should I have just taken the units to cover lunch as normal and ignored the earlier low reading?
Guess I just panicked because I was in the middle of nowhere and it was my lowest reading yet!

If you were at home surrounded by food and modern technology (ie the telephone) I would say, you probably should have taken the whole dose. But as you were being very physically active (walking miles and miles) and were in "the middle of nowhere" I think you did the right thing. Discretion really is the better part of valor. A bit of a high is better for you than passing out in the middle of the woods someplace. Once you have a better handle on how the insulin works with your body, and how exercise enters the mix, you'll be able to avoid the highs as well, but in this situation, I think you did the right thing.

I don;t see anythin wrong with your logic there, just be safe!!...especially when excersing. You can always fix a high later on. It won't kill you to be high for a couple hours, i don't even think it would even hurt you at all.

****** erin you beat me haha....already wrote the mesage...thats why i said the same thing twice.

Thanks for the replies. Seems to have gone back down now. (5.7) I think I just need too accept that I really have to watch out if doing extra exercise. Normally walk 1-2 miles most evenings, but havent done any long walks recently, mainly due to the weather!

Just wanted to add I know how frustrating it can be - likewise I was on NovoMix but have recently started Lantus & Novorapid & am finding each day a new adventure! ;)

Hi Georgia,

How are you doing with the change? I feel so much better but it is taking some getting used to.
