Take yesterday for exapmple. Been having 2 weks of bliss, BG normal, no lows - ever. Been on holiday, and travelling (driving a lot)

Last nite I got back from driving 1535km in one go. Got home by supper time. Tested, was at 6.2, now normally for me, if I test above 4.0 at suppertime, I have to increase dosage. Normal for me on days that I do not exercise like yesterday to increase by 3 units in the evning otherwise BG will shoot up.

Barely 20 minutes after I took the medication (Humulin Intermediate) I started feeling a low coming on, so I test, 2.2. How the **** can that be? I didnt hit a blood vessel or anything.

Right, so I have 2 bananas and a 100g packet of biltong (dried meat, SA speciality)

I wake up at 02:00am to go to the loo, which is normal. At 03:30 I have to go again, something wrong, so I test. 15.7

I wait another hour and take my morning dosage, then go back to sleep for another 2 hours. I remember being woken up in a pool of sweat.

I have done the same drill hundred's of times before. I havent gone as high as 15 for at least 2 years. Nor have I woken up in a pool of sweat after sleeping for 2 hours after medicating a high with a normal dose.

Just when I think I got everything sorted out, something like this happens :(

I have had a really bad 24 hours

That sounds like a miserable ride. I hope you get yourself back on an even keel again soon. Sorry you are having such a hard time.

Sounds to me as if the banana's were the problem they are quite high in sugar if ripe but also tend to stay in the system for a long time soI suspect it was just an overload of carbs. I find if I have a low in the night 10/15 carbs will fix the problem no matter how low I am.
Try having some glucose tablets by your bed and take 3 or 4 and see what happens.Hopefully it won't happen again.

just roll with it. I've had crazy days (we all have) with no explanations. I think sometimes the body just feels like being "crazY'. Who knows..... I just make sure I stay on top of the sugars and adjust insulin or food.....

I've learned there isn't much you can do, and unless the reason is obvious, I don't try to figure out if the food I ate is somehow different, or if one of 1 million other things could be affecting me that day.

I've had days where I've been low (2 or 3 something) eat chocolate and drink coke, and had my sugar up to 5 30 mintues later (when it should have been 15!) and then have it go back down again for no reason.....

It sucks, yes, but not much I can do on those days..... but chase the tail of the dragon and hope he stops moving eventually!

I eat two bananas with peanut butter every morning. They are low GI I think and digest slower which would lead to spiking. I inject about 20 minutes after I eat and that seems to keep me from spiking.
