Got my Paradigm 515 blue yesterday!

My question is this:

I was so enamored to find that the pump talks to the meter via RF which in turn connects to the computer via USB, I'm like AWESOME!

Then I discovered that the only use is to back up your PUMP SETTINGS?!?!?!!

What a waste of amazing technology! Does anyone know of any good utilities for logging and reporting on BG and bolus info via this PC connection? Or at the very least any good logging/diabetes software that I can somewhat tie into the pump functionality?

Holy ****! This is the coolest thing I've ever seen! It makes me remember the old days of letting a HUUUUGE blood sample, dropping it on those old accuchek strips, waiting 60 seconds, wiping it with a cotton swab, waiting another 60 seconds, and then comparing it to the side of the vial, which didn;t even match the colors correctly...

How far we've come. And man, there's something cool about seeing a PDF on your screen with every dot in the green (target BG range)...

Who else uses this amazing ******* software?

I had posted this in another thread.

There is two different software programs. The one you are talking about is called Paradigm pal, with that you can use it to review and change all your pump settings.

The second one is the Soultions software. With that, the pump downloads Bg readings, Bolus, Basal rates, All Carbs entered into the pump, alarm warning and even priming info. Pretty much everything is downloaded to the computer using this software.

There is a list of other meters you can use with the Soultions software.
There is about ten different reports.

Current pump settings.
basal rates, carb ratio, bolus settings and more.
Logbook- history and Diary
Daily summary- and details
Modal day - scatter, hourly and Daily
Daily avg. trend
pie/histogram charts

It was over 2 months of 515 use, that a MM employee finally got around to tellling me about CareLink after I had called several times to inquire about software. They kept telling me I could buy some software package, but it was delayed. Sometime around my 3rd or 4th conversation, someone at MM told me of the free web site, carelink. DOH! HELLO! Why couldn't they have included that info with the paperwork that came with the pump, or told me about it the FIRST time I called?

I do. Very lucky indeed. In fact, this website makes me feel all warm and fuzzy all over. I wish I had this growing up. Like the times where I was a 14 year old kid, trying to fit in in school, showing up at a party, and then needing someone to take me home because I forgot my shot, immediately getting ostracized and no longer invited to said events.

I felt like the loneliest kid in the world, because the only other diabetics I knew were of the Type II variety and nothing like me. I felt like there was nobody out there who understood what it was like to be me.

Now it's like, I turn on my computer, and we're all here together. Not to get all mushy, but man that makes me feel incredible, and finally not alone anymore.

I've only been at this diabetes thing for 5 years, but i agree with rhino. it's nice to be able to bounce a question out there and have a bunch of informed intelligent normal people do their best to help each other out.

speaking of such questions, the medtronic carelink software will spit out all kinds of detailed graphs and analysis of the data from my pump, and something just occured to me: when it gives you your average blood glucose, is it taking the average of all the individual readings, or is it averaging the daily or hourly averages instead? (i hope that made sense). i just got the 515 a month ago and i'm still trying to get a handle on how smart it really is.

Hi! The whole reason I upgraded to the 515 was for the Carelink. (I'm fairly certain it was advertised..at least on the web.)

I am horrible at keeping logbooks. Now, before I see my doctor, I upload all my meter data and my pump data. My doctor loves the reports.. especially the modal reports. He's been able to help me make significant changes to basal rates and we've really seen some improvement.

The fact that it's free and over the web is awesome.
