So this is a long story that I will try to shorten to get to the point.

I am on a path to getting a pump. But to do so, I wanted to simplify down what I was taking (which was R + Humalog + L at bedtime.) With L gone, I dropped R and have been using just Humalog in the day and L at night.

Well, I went to see my diabetes educator and she mentioned that I could use the pen if I liked. And I remembered the old Novo pen I had (em, I had two of the originals and then one of the rev 2.)

The original novo pen is a very nice solid metal. You unscrew the cap and screw it on the back of the pen, exposing the needle and pushing out the pumping mechinism.

One full push generates 2 clicks and indicates delivery of 2 units. One half push generates a click and one unit.

I *loved* the pen for it's size and style. It looks like a normal pen when closed - very inconspicuous.

So my question is: does anyone still use these? Or are all pen users using latter pens?

What are the benefits of the newer pens other than dial-a-dose?

I'll try and attach pictures here:

Note the old school Precision QID Pen! Remember that one?

Okay, so my thoughts of using the old pen have been violently put out.

NO ONE makes the 1.5ml refills anymore. They went out, oh, em, 8 years ago.

It's all 3ml now.

Fine.

I am an old timer.

I dont really have anything to say about the older pen thing, but HEY! to the old pen style blood tester! I didnt actually have one myself, but I remember them. I wonder why no other meters were ever styled like that? I thought it looked good!

The Novopen 3 and 4 are probably the best pens around. They're tough, durable, very accurate and they look a lot better than any of the other pens.

They are slightly larger than the original Novopen but as you say, that's because they don't make 1.5ml carts anymore.
