Low blood sugar is so frustrating. I may have taken my Lantus dose twice last night (or possibly just didn't treat my before bed low well enough). When I woke up this morning, I turned on the :coffee: but then collapsed in the kitchen and had a seizure. The commotion woke up my roommate who gave me a glucagon injection, called an ambulance and gave me an awful lot of juice.

Now I am suffering from a blinding headache and remorse. My blood sugar skyrocketed after the glucagon, but is now approaching normal.

I hate stoopid lows like that. Two serious lows in two months. Bad BAD BAD BAD BAD!!

Of Cate, I'm so sorry to hear about that. I was going to join in and complain about my own problems, but I've had nothing so serious. I can't do anything about your headache, but I can tell you that you don't need the remorse. It's just good that nothing too bad happned and that you are approaching normal.
Smile ;) a little.

Dear Cate, I have always been hard on myself and am really trying to be self-forgiving. Sometimes I think about all of the mistakes I have made on this long diabetic journey (almost 40 years) and I know that I have to get out of the regret department and into the land of self-forgiveness. Won't you join me? I think that we are all doing the best that we can. Maybe this was a good wakeup call for you and you will be better off because of what you have learned from it. I hope this helps. Yvonne

What a drag. Hope you feel better soon. I can't imagine how bad it must feel when you go that low. Best wishes...

Whoa Cate, I hate that happened to you. At least someone was there with you who knew what to do. Hope things get better and you start to feel better. I absolutely HATE those headaches.

Oh Cate!! On the up side, in 10 yrs, you'll be sharing stories about your time in Tokyo with the intro being:
"Hahaha... ...remember that morning you went out to make coffee and crashed.... " .

Having danced with this disease for over 4 decades, you are probably learning as I have: -1) your BG never lies. 2) your meter rarely lies. 3) your 'feelings' can often be misleading (you felt OK, but you were in fact low?).

And the few times I have regained consciousness in the Emergency ward wondering where I was.. ..and what is my name..??? ....and realizing: '****! I didn't think I was low at all!"

Don't be too hard on yourself. It seems like such lows are part of the overall "I've got diabetes" adventure! Oh Yea!!!....
God bless. I HATE those headaches too and even my friend’s "JackDaniels & Tequila" shooters cure won't take care of that hypo recovery headaches.
Glad you're recovering and able to type again. Keep that great smile in spite of the odds. :top:

Cheers,

Crikey I am sorry to hear that. Glad to hear you are okay now (despite the headache) & thankfully your room mate was nearby. Hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, I am really happy my roommate was here. She was brave and didn't freak out. Though, now she is justifiably uneasy and is checking that I am OK a bit more often.

The headache was nasty, but finally went away after 18 hours. Now I am just stuck with horrible muscle aches (from the seizure, I guess).

And, to add to my list of gripes, I have a cold. Luckily I don't have to work this weekend, so I can focus on resting, relaxing and taking care of myself.

Thanks for your wishes. I will focus on feeling better.

I've had problems forgetting to take an injection or taking it and forgetting I took it and then taking a second one. What has helped me a lot is the Accu-Chek Complete meter. Whenever I take an injection, I enter it into the meter immediately. Since I started using it in 1999, I think I've only forgotten once about taking an injection (didn't enter it into the meter) and I'm aware of forgetting to take an injection only once. I don't think they make the Complete any longer but you can buy a OneTouch UltraSmart and it will allow you to enter injections, too. I would encourage you to at least consider getting one because it's helped me a lot. Of course, you'll have to make sure you don't forget to enter an injection like I once did.

Gee Cate, an 18 hr. headache and muscle aches. That sounds
like a bad one alright. My longest headache was 7 hrs. I thought
that was Bad. Poor you. :flowers: Sure happy it's gone. I hope
your cold is a VERY SHORT one. Feel better. :)

The muscle aches have been nasty. When was the low, anyway? Wednesday morning, I think? Yes, definitely. And now it is the wee hours of Saturday morning (12:19 a.m) and it still hurts to cough or sit up in bed or do any of those 'sporty things' that I never do.

Perhaps instead of improving my BS control, I should improve my general fitness so that the next time this happens, the result isn't so intrusive.

I think you had the low, because you weren't a "Senior Member":flowers: yet.

That's great advice. That's one thing that I miss about the pump and I had mentioned my frustration that pens don't record doses and she didn't mention that option. Because the ambulance took me to my hospital, she should have a record of this ordeal and I can likely easily convince her to give me a new meter with that feature.

That must have been it. I bet I will feel the "Senior Member Insurance Policy" kick in soon and my blood sugar control will improve. No more shaky lows for me, now.
