Last thing I remember was watching a serial on TV, and then waking up in the ER at the local clinic :(
Bit of history. Been awfully sick with a stomach bug since the morning. Felt horrible all day but my BG was normal.
Had my evening dose of insulin and ate a light supper. Then I went to lie on the bed and watched TV. I remember going to the TV room, after that nothing.
I passed out, the GF and my Dad took me to the clinic after feeding me sugar to no avail.
It was definetely my worst hypo ever, scary stuff :(
I overdosed a bit because I thought my stomach bug would hike the BG as per normal when having an infection, on the contrary it seems it affected my absorbtion and it all ended tragically :(
10 years and still learning I guess

Glad to hear you are OK now.
Thank you for reporting it, it may help newbies like myself (just over 2 years on insulin) from getting too confident and making a big error.

Lots of trial and error lessons to be learned when you live ain a country with very poor medical assistance

Oh, I've done that a few times. I remember once setting at a typewriter to write a letter and hearing the theme song from The Beverly Hillbillies running in the background as the program came on the air. I think it ran about 9:30 in the morning locally back then. The next thing I know, it's about 3:00 in the afternoon and I'm lying on the floor covered in sugar, orange juice, and Coca-Cola.

REALLY GLAD u r OK. Some bodies do not get affected with high blood sugar when you have a stomach bug or cold. Next time, keep in mind, it is better to check more frequently while sick. Also, as the years go by, you will notice changes as to how your body reacts to different situations. I have been there having a real bad hypo, but thankfully just needed the paramedics and not the hospital. I know its no fun and the feeling you have afterwards is not good either. I think its really easier to correct a high than a low as u are conscious. Hope you get to feeling better and ask questions if u need to.

Glad that you are OK, Pitzi. I am with you--there are still mysteries with managing blood sugar, even after all these years.

Pitzi, I'm glad you're ok. Sorry to hear about your incident, and hope you're feeling lots better. Lows sure can be draining/taxing on the body, especially if/when they land you in the ER.
In line with what Cin said, we all make mistakes from time to time. Hang in there & hope you get better soon.

Thanks people.
I live in South Africa. It used to have great medical facilities and skilled doctors, sadly most of them left for greener pastures overseas and we are left with a bunch of useless excuses for medical doctors.
I don't know what they gave me at the hospital, I was too dazed to ask, but whatever they gave me was the bomb. No headache, none of the usual post-hypo side effects like spiking etc.
I actually feel 100% with my BG today, just this evil stomach bug thats draining me

Pitzi,
I,too, am so sorry that you had that experience but at least we can all learn from it. Someone posted something about staying higher (B.S.) when ill. I totally agree and have learned this through experience. It is easier to THINK when you are higher rather than too low. Constant monitoring is a good thing. Recently, I experienced a mentally stressful situation and felt my adrenaline pumping away. I was sure that my B.S. would be high when I checked an hour later. It always has been that way. Guess what, it was 69. Go figure! I am so glad that I didn't bolus a little for the stress and instead waited it out. This disease can be highly unpredictable and not that much fun but at least we have each other!!--Yvonne
Just when you think you have an idea of how things are going to work out..........that's the challenge of diabetes. I am very glad that you had people around you who could help you!!! It sound like you are back "normal" now, I am glad that you are okay and nothing serious happend.

Glad to see that you are feeling somewhat better. :D
Sorry to say but SA isn't the only place that has "useless excuses for medical doctors". The US has plenty also.

Guess what the UK has them too!! They may be taught about the working of the human body, but some of them have zero bedside manner or the first clue about talking with anyone.
My mistakes p**s peeps off, a doctors mistakes tend to get burried.

I had a bad one this afternoon after mowing the lawn for a while. Before supper, I felt like one was coming on so I took my glasses off, sat in the floor, and drank what I guess is about 4 ounces of Coke . . . nothing, so I drank 4 more ounces . . . still nothing, so I drink 4 more ounces. I still feel bad so I take some glucose and pour what I guess to be about 14 more ounces into the cup and drink it. I feel stable enough to go to the table where I start eating supper again. After a few minutes, I check my sugar and guess what it reads after what I believe is about 26 ounces of Coke, 1/2 tube of glucose, and 1/3 of my supper? I was thinking it would be well over 300 at this point but I got a reading of . . . LO. Oops! Not high enough to get a reading! I drink a little more Coke, finish supper, then get a reading of . . . 48. Highest it's been since this afternoon is 98.

Wow! I need to get out and mow some grass!! With that kind of energy-burning potential, I wonder if you could sell the right to mow grass to fitness clubs?!?
Seriously, whenever I go home, I spend a week mowing the grass of everyone in my family--sister, bro, nana, neighbour, etc. because 1) it is fun, 2) it is great exercise, 3) it is satisfying, 4) freshly cut grass smells so good.
