I skipped dinner yesterday to test my pm basals...but...I was driving my kids home and giving them some crackers and put some crumbs in my mouth. I realized my mistake and spit them out. However, I think carbs are partially digested in the mouth. Could that have skewed my results? My bgs were going down and then mysteriously increased 10-20 points. I'm wondering if the cracker caused the increase. Argh!

I doubt you could have gotten that much from a couple of chews of crackers...but you do want "clean" results, so if it were me, I would test again.

It's hard, isn't it?

It is, but it made me realize that I'm putting things in my mouth without thinking...even if it's just a few cracker crumbs.

It could, but I don't think enough to worry about. One or two crackers have maybe 5 carbs max. And for the average person, that wouldn't do too much. It could do a 10-20 point rise though.

i agree guys. crumbs of crackers if you eat enough of them may barely raise bs

My bg was 88 before I started driving the kids home. I'm wondering if I would have gone low if not for the crumbs. I think I'll redo it tonight if my bgs are in the right range this afternoon. No hand to mouth disease tonight!

no since crumbs barely do a thing to bs they would not of stopped you from going low.....if u didnt go low it has nothing to do with the crumbs

Crumbs from the tables of the rich are dinner for the poor,, or rather, enough crums could make a differnce. I think you're right in doing it over.

These tests should be repeated a couple times anyhow to verify the results.

a whole, complete, total soda cracker is typically 2 gms of carb

so, did you eat a whole, complete, total soda crackers worth of crumbs?

that sort of thing happens all the time..............did you check the Phases of the MOons of Saturn?

No, just a little, iddy bitty piece of crumb...which I spit out.

So this test is valid.

As merciless cybnertic hybrid points out, though, you really need to do the test several times.

So true. It's good for weight loss, though!

Did you all test and tweak and then test again...or test several times before making any changes?

the first few times I tested 3 consecutive times before making changes, now I test once about every 5-6 weeks. If something is out of kilter, then I'll test two more consecutive days and then base my changes on that.

I eat as normal, but then have nothing after I go to bed until I hit the 16 hour mark. Then eat like a pig.

Both CDEs I work with approve of my system.

My wife notices the days I'm checking basal rates. She thinks my attitude is worser on those days.

I tested and tweaked along the way. I wanted to get off of the initial default settings asap.
