I'm six weeks into a four year relationship. My partner provides a most valuable service in my life - you can rightly say my life depends on it! So I hold my partner dearly, treat most kindly with love and respect. Proudly displayed in a position of import, nestled close to my cell phone, rests my insulin pump.

I question though, how our relationship will stand the test of time. When the shine wears off, and the software can't be upgraded, and the size feels like a cell phone from 1985, and I have to special order batteries ("Lithium batteries? Not here, but you might check on eBay under antiques") will I wear my partner quite so proudly?

I dream of walking through the mall, circa 2010, shopping for a new Blackberry that will phone home, tune my hybrid car and perform minor dentistry - the newest models are the size of your thumbnail. There I find I've clumsily bumped into a tatooed youngster who declares "@#$%^ mister! You could have hurt someone with that thing - what're ya doin' with a toaster on yer belt anyway?"

I've already "designed" a cool new skin for my partner, and could easily do so over and over again. But isn't that like putting a new slipcover on the sofa, or repainting the car? In 2010 my partner/pump might make me feel like I was wearing rhinestone cateye sunglasses or sporting a mullet. So what to do?

Well, retro is always in, so I'll just add accessories. Like a real cassette tape Walkman. And a fanny pack I'll wear in the front. And a simulated leather comb-holster. Right. Or I'll start wearing it on the inside, you know, to prevent embarassment - (are you happy to see me or are you diabetic?).

Well, time will tell how the relationship works out. Right now we're just really happy we're hooked up.

Smiles - Joe

Joe.. Joe.. Joe
I had a bf named Joe.. HAD!

First.... a pump can get seriously damaged like this!

DO u ever consider Pumps to go w/ everything else that gets smaller? I do.
How about the cure actually happening? maybe.... but possible!

You can NEVER be dependent on anyone or anything (I learned that in Human Growth and Dev.) Be independent and be prepared to survive ANY situation. :nerd:
If any of the above happen, then see the psych.. lol

Get real! You'll dump her the minute you see another that is a little more exciting, or that will promise to satisfy your every desire with the push of a button.

Joe, I love your creativity in describing life with your insulin pump.
I'm aslo interested to see what the new "skin" for your pump looks like. Would you mind sharing a pic? I think it'd be cool to see!

If and when I get it I'll post a pic - it's just an Animas custom cover, but the artwork is cool!
