Wow!!
I went up to the hospital to recieve my pump last thursday, and when I returned back to the office, my computer had crashed. I only got it back late yesterday. What a time to go, damm fried motherboard.
O.K I lurk more than I post, mostly due to time restraints, but a big thank-you for all the info I have read on the board.
My sugars are still a little out of whack but it has only been 5 days yet.
I am on a trial with the 715. So far I like it, but also like the Animas.
I think I would really like the new animas mini pump due out next year.
I wonder if MM has anything like that in the works.
Does every body use the i.v. preps, or just a regular alcohol swab to clean the site.
I find the i.v. preps so expensive.

I don't use anything and I've no problem with infections. I used to use alcohol swabs, but realized using them was a waste of both time and money. (a quick wipe with a swab does nearly nothing to the bacteria count on one's skin)

I use the iv preps. I don't think they are more than 25$ a box with insurance. I use them for several reasons. They do give me a sense of cleanliness with the antiseptic, after all, I am inserting a foreign object into my body for 3 days. After I apply a new set, I remove the old set and use the iv prep a second time to cleanse the wound. It helps to seal the cannula wound by forming a bandaide of sorts. Another reason I use the iv prep is that i find it's sticky nature tends to help the new infusion set stay more firmly attached for the entire 3 days duration without peeling or lifting. I like to take long showers, so this is kind of important for me... :bath:

I use the IV Preps. They make my skin sticky and the adhesive seems to hold better. My insurance pays for them but I think Minimed sells them for $12/box of 50. You can set up an account and buy through MM's online store even if you don't have their pump. If you order online there's no shipping charge. Back in january when I got an order of supplies they didn't include the preps. I called and the woman I spoke with said my insurance no longer covered them. I waited until I was running out and placed an order through the online store and it turned out that insuranmce does still pay for them.
I'm happy to get them for fre but I would pay the $12 if I had to. You get 50, which is more than enough for 4 months of set changes. MM's price is the cheapest I've seen them.

Nice to know. That does sound like a good price. Maybe I'll stock up and order a few boxes.
