Diabetes Forum Gathering - Time of Year

Ok, this has been a slight topic for some more than others. Originally, I said the summer so that families could come and children as well. However, I'm not sure how many that affects and I know cam has already talked of dumping her kids on her parents, lol.

So, when is the best time to plan this? I think I'll use the seasons as the options and hopefully people can get a general idea of when each season is. Sorry, but contrary to popular belief, Summer is not on January 13th. We are talking American seasons.

Which brings that up, please, only those in the US vote unless someone plans on flying here from there.

summer is a good time, but the middle of summer in Vegas is always a sorcher, so right after kids are out of school, if the hotels aren't booked to the hilt with extra conventions, would be a good time to go, IMO.

Personally, we go AFTER Labor Day to avoid the summer crowds, get a reduced hotel rate, and enjoy milder weather (it rarely goes over 102 when we are there in September--mostly it runs 97-100). I fully realize this get together isn't gonna work for others, in September, so just saying that everyone should realize the summer is the ideal time to be in Vegas, but it may be our only chance to get the most people to attend, vacation time wise.

I agree Spike. Summer would be the best time for kids (especially) and families to plan....

That said, I'm somewhat open, as long as the notice is a decent one.

I agree. I voted for Summer, but only because I thought the most folks could attend. I don't think it's the best choice, weather wise, at all!

May I add that when I was booking my trip to Florida it was pretty cheap and that was around February. After that I noticed a steady increase because of the spring breaks that were coming up. So just an example: I paid around $900 for a private pool house at the end of March. A week after we left the price jumped several hundred dollars.

The sooner you do book the cheaper. And alot of times if you book directly with hotels (don't use those online places like Expedia, Orbitz, etc.) you can cancel with no penalties if you let them know a week in advance. So if someone booked now, and in March the rates dropped, they could rebook and then cancel their previous reservation.

Just curious... are we going to have a poll where we can vote on particular months? A multiple choice option would be helpful, in order to specify a couple of months if we need to...

There WILL NOT be a poll for months. I personally find doing the month one stupid. Reason being is it's hard to pick a month. The first two weeks of April are great, but the last 2 the rates double, so if poeple put April as their choice for the last week, we won't know that if the month is just April. The same applies to I think the 2nd week in May, the rates go up for a convention.

Therefore I'll be working on a poll, or maybe just a thread, with week dates and the hotel rates and major events that week. Then people reply there.

Stay tuned and I should have something up by noon EST.
