M&G 2008 - Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge Info

Firstly, this IS NOT the final local yet. I'm hoping for more votes in the Meet & Greet - Location Finale thread and since Pigeon Forge is currently in first, I thought I'd post some more info about it.

Pigeon Forge is located just next to Gatlinburg therefore we get two locations for the price of one, about a 15-20 minute drive (I think.) For more information from the tourists websites check out:

Pigeon Forge Family Vacation Destination Guide – Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
Gatlinburg Tennessee: Heart of the Great Smoky Mountains

I think between the two locations there is enough entertainment for a full week's worth of fun for both adults and kids.

Where to Stay?
I believe that this area offers some of the largest varieties of types of places to stay. There is everything from small motels, to hotels, to condominium rentals, all the way to chalets/cabins. For a family, a chalet/cabin or the condo is a great way to go as you get multiple rooms and a full kitchen. Therefore you don't have to eat out the entire trip.

Package information can be found at Pigeon Forge Summer Packages. I'm not fully sure on how many they are figuring for the package price. Therefore I can't say how accurate those prices are for say a party of 1 or a party of 5.

What to Do?
Dolly Parton's Great Smoky Mountain family Amusement Park
Of course, the #1 attraction in Pigeon Forge is the infamous Dollywood. Dollywood is like any other amusement part but with the old country feel to it. Admission is slightly high, which is why I believe a package above would be the best way to go.

Regular (Ages 12 - 59) - $47.95
Child (Ages 4 - 11) - $36.80
Senior (Ages 60+) - $44.60

Admission is greatly reduced if you buy the Splash and Play pass. This pass gives you 3 days worth of admission to BOTH Dollywood and Dollywood's Splash Country.

Regular (Ages 12 - 59) - $78.05
Child (Ages 4 - 11) - $61.30
Senior (Ages 60+) - $78.05

Dollywood's Splash Country Water Adventure Theme Park in Pigeon Forge, TN
Dollywood's Splash Country is a waterpark with 23 water rides. A great way to cool off in the early parts of the summer for a day. Single day admission is as follows.

Regular (Ages 12 - 59) - $39.00
Child (Ages 4 - 11) - $33.45
Senior (Ages 60+) - $36.80

Ripley's Gatlinburg
Ripley has 5 major attractions in the Gatlinburg area. These include:
Davy Crockett Mini Golf
Adult - $9.99
Child (Ages 6-11) - $6.99

Ripley's Believe It or Not Aquarium in Gatlinburg Tennessee | Marine Life, Sea Life, Marine Animals, Aquatic Life
Adult - Ages 12 & up - $19.99
Child - Ages 6 to 11 - $10.99

Ripleys Believe it or Not
Adults - $14.99
Children (3-11) - $7.99

Ripleys Moving Theater
Double Feature - All Ages - $12.99

Ripley's Haunted Adventure
Adult - Ages 12 & up - $12.99
Child - Ages 6 to 11 - $7.99

There is also a special ticket for $54 for adults that gets you into all of the above attractions for a weeklong period. That's a savings of $17.

Welcome to Wonderworks
Wonderworks is an indoor funpark. It's more for kids, but there can be fun adult things to do as well.

Another great item to do in the area is whitewater rafting, canoeing, or kayaking. They have many different rivers to go down with everything from class 1 to class 4 rapids. Rates vary from about $15 per person to $70 depending on the length, number going, type of boat used, etc. I recently went canoeing for 6 hours and it was a great time. I've also white water rafted in the past and if you've never done it, you need to at least try once in your life.

If anyone has any questions on more information or can add anything about the area, just let me know. I haven't been there in about 15 years, so I'm sure it's changed quite a bit. But I'd love to go back and since it's so close, I'll be driving and will have my vehicle which seats 4 plus me.

Oh goody. I'm glad that the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area is being considered. I just live about 2.5 hours away. I was there a few months ago for the first time...very fun with lots of tourist-y things to do.
