Maybe I can't get some of the stuff I was accustomed to getting in the big city, but Columbia has a nice way of making up for all that! I'll definitely need to live near the ocean and/or mountains again one day, but CoMo's not a bad place to be in the mean time.
Have you been to the Lake yet? Columbia is much bigger than here, many more amenities. It's a freakin' tourist town here - blah. Living here year round sucks. I'd do Columbia over LOTO anyday.

We should arrange a get together some weekend. It sounds like Columbia is the easiest meeting place.

Sorry I didn't see this one before.

I live in Springfield, MO. I work in Ozark, MO. Ohana, how far South of Springfield do you live?

Regards,

Not from MO, but have plenty of extended family in St. Louis (and family property just southwest of St. Louis near De Soto).

I have in-laws in Blue Springs (near KC). We usually go visit every year. I lived in and around KC for about 7 years -- worked at the big Sprint campus while it was being built. I've enjoyed Springfield (where the original Bass Pro is), Branson, and I once drove my dog to the vet hospital in Columbia.

Moving to KC from Dallas was a bit of a culture shock. It took about 2 years before I liked it, and then I decided I'd never move to a big city again. Well, that was until my husband got transferred back to Dallas.

Totally forgot about this thread! Whoops!

Yeah, lake life isn't all it's cracked up to be UNLESS you're on the lake.

We're actually putting the house up for sale on Wednesday. (Anyone looking to move to the lake? ) We hate being away from family so much that we wanna move back to Michigan. Some call it a STUPID decision considering the economy up there, but we don't like it here at all. I *might* be happier living in KC, but probably not.

We too are moving back "home"...my hubby got a job in Boston, so we'll be returning from whence we came. We had actually hoped to stay in Columbia for a while (he was hoping for a post-doc position here at the University) but w/ the economy and funding issues that didn't materialize. We're just unbelievably grateful he was able to find a good job.

Another person moving here, although I will be relocating in state. I got a teaching job in Independence and am currently house hunting. We're looking at both rentals and places to buy. We would prefer to buy it. With our calculations, the montly payments on the mortgage would be cheaper than paying rent for a house of the same size, so ican get a nicer house for less money and not have to worry about all the issues that come with a rental. The one problem is the loan will have to in my name and since I don't *officially* have a job (my contract starts in August) we don't know if that will be possible.

I'm from Columbia, MO too. I like it here with all the parks, and it is a fairly bike friendly city too, which I enjoy.

I was born and raised in Joplin, MO but now live in Wichita, KS. My parents, sister and her family still live around Joplin. I would love to move back there and so would my dh. He was born and raised there too.

Also a dream of ours is to live on the lake in the Ozarks...
