LOL! I probably test more than anyone, too. I get either 510 strips per month (Accucheck drum style) or when I get the Lifescan strips, I get 600. I should get my doc to rewrite the Rx for 561...

I forgot about one of my meters that my mom has though it is not in use.
She has my very first glucometer. It was made by Ames in 1984. I'm sure those that have been diagnosed as long (or longer) as I have remember this meter. The thing was huge and you had to wipe the strip off. I think a reading took either 5 or 7 MINUTES !!!!!

Here is a site that shows the meter and lancet device that I was referring to. I used the Glucometer M and I did use the Clinitest tablets before.

Just a One Touch Ultra and One Touch Basic. Guess I'm in a rut, but I really like my One Touch Ultra. It's fast and seems to be accurate.

Good Lord! How do you have time to do anything else? That's 20 tests per day or 1.25 tests per waking hour (assuming you sleep 8 hours). My insurance company would throw me on the street if I asked for that many!

I would test more if my insurance would let me... I'm still shocked when surveys ask how many times a person tests, and the maximum they have is "3X daily".

Thomas likes to collect meters! Whenever we go to a diabetes fair or the expo he takes whatever they are giving out.

He has had:
2 One Touch Ultras
2 UtlraSmarts
both of these used when he was first diagnosed

2 BD logics
2 Prestiges
1 Accu check ?(with the strips in a disc)
1 of the ones with the strips in a drum but cant remember the name of it
1 Accu Check Aviva
most of these I donated to All Children's Hosp and friends

5 Freestyle Flashes - what he uses now
All of these metes where free

Wow, Spike, that's a lot! Do you only use one more than the others? Which is your fav?

I only use one, the Accuchek Aviva. Like it good so far. Probably will want another to keep a backup when I start work again.

Don't forget those meters serve TWO diabetics. My wife is also a pumper.

The meter I recommend the most -- UltraSmart & Ultra 2 (because of the larger font used to review bg history)

The meter I currently use the most - Compact Plus (because of convenience--not because I think it's any more accurate). It's also big and bulky and has no light. BUT, I can't seem to stop using it because it's all in one. No fumbling with strips and no need for a case. If they could make it a bit smaller, put in a light...

My wife has an Aviva and we both tried it and liked it insofar as we used just one vial of strips. I've no idea how reliable it is, but the few times we used it, it seemed as if it was accurate. If I went back to fiddling with strips, I think it would be a good choice, but I'd most likely return to my previous long-term companions, the Ultras.

I keep going back to the Flash because it is small. I think it is pretty accurate as well. I just wish they would make the cases bright orange or something as I lose my meter at least five times a day!!!! Stupid black case.

I do agree on that. It would be neat to see additional color cases made for every meter. I can't recall ever seeing a meter case besides black, which seems odd to me since meters are heat sensitive. I'd pay around $10 for a neat blue one that matches my Animas IR 1200.
