| | Gee I only have just two meters and they are Accu-chek Advantage and a Proforma and both meters are quite good to use. If I were to buy a new meter then I would look at something small compact that would be good for those walks or the bike. |

| | | One Touch Ultrasmart - my one and only meter. I have some older ones (Precision Xtra and a One Touch II) in the closet, but I never use them- I just never got rid of them.
I don't understand why you need more than one... I have a kit of all my stuff, and it just goes with me if I'm going to be out for more than an hour or so.

| | | The one touch ultra smart is compact and has a good case that can clip to your belt.
I used to carry my ultrasmart meter in it's case and clip it around the seat post on my bike...
Im currently using the Accu-chek compact plus which i like mostly becasuse you dont have to fiddle with the test strips at all and the lancet device attaches to the side of the meter.

| | | I primarily use my BD Minimed Link monitor. BD seems to have a bad reputation, but it's been my all time favorite. It has by far the smallest sample requirement, and it's very forgiving if you don't get a good sample right away. Accuracy has not been an issue.
I tried an Ascensia Contour as they are supposed to be having a link version for the Paradigms. I hate it. It takes too big a blood sample size. While the actual requirement is small, you need a huge drop to ensure you get enough on the strip. It is uber-sensitive with no tolerance for errors. I waste a lot of strips.
I also have an Accu-check Aviva. It was a get a free monitor and gift deal with the purchase of 100 strips. I buy strips by the truckload. The book they sent me is pretty good; though I wanted the Frio pouch. This thing is more forgiving than the Contour, but still takes more blood than my BD. Having to replace the chip for new strips is a negative.
I'm going to try some of these other ones too. |

| | | 3 freestyle flash meters, 1 home, 1 at work, 1 with me
I have given or tossed all my other meters. I had 8 or 9 at one time.

So, 4 in all but I only use the first 2. | I have added a Mini, a Cozmonitor, and a Freestyle Lite but I only use the One Touch line cause those are the strips my insurance covers. The Freestyle is still in the box, never used. If anyone wants the Freestyle Lite, let me know and I'll send it to you.
Or if anyone wants to start a contest, I'll use the Lite as a prize.

A few others who's models I've forgotten - another 5-10 | . Some I've tossed (the last time I moved I tossed a box full of them), some I've given away, others collect dust. I've owned pretty much every meter by Lifescan (all the One Touch line) Accu-chek, Therasense (Freestyle), Glucometer... all the way back to coding chips and even further back to the "rinse the strip longer to get a lower number, with no memory" machine.
What I actually use: One Touch 2 and a Freestyle Flash. I would my One Touch Mini----if it had a port to upload the numbers!

I'm going to try some of these other ones too. | Add a OneTouch Ultra2 to the mix. It's a cute little thing. The pouch has a neat plastic monitor holder, the pen is tiny - I like that, and it works well. It's been consistently about 3-4% lower than my BD in the half dozen tests I've tried. The only negatives are that it's slippery - my BD has rubber grips - and it takes a slightly larger drop than my BD. It needs smaller drops than the Contour and Aviva though. Good monitor so far. |

It's small/cute/compact, has a short/small "pricker" (can use arm too if you choose), takes a little blood sample & no coding required. However, I'd rather have the link to my pump so I use my BD Logic Paradigm Link.

I picked up a Freestyle freedom today. I know nothing about it, but I can get a free Diabetes for Dummies Canadian version book. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
