Lifescan Software & Vista?

Has anyone used the Lifescan Diabetes Management Software (for OneTouch products) w/USB cable under Vista? If so, have you gotten it to work?

I have contacted Lifescan but they would only say that their software has not been certified for Vista and that there would likely be an update for Vista some time soon.

I know from experience that some software will work out of the box - maybe with minor problems - under this OS.

I don't want to buy it and find it does not work at all.

Thanks.

Nope, I got the same response from them as well. It sucks, and they seem to not mind at all.

It's a problem we will all have ot live with till they come out with new drivers or whatever the problem is.

Heck, I do video work for a church and they recently spent $1800 on a new Dell laptop to do some graphics work on with video. Well, they have a video input tool made by Pinnacle Systems and it won't work on the new laptop. The reason is because it's Vista and they don't have drivers for it yet. Talking with Pinnacle personally they said Microsoft is strict with giving out their new software for companies to create drivers with before the public can have it. Therefore they get a huge delay from when it comes out to when a driver may be supported. So now we have an $1800 laptop that is useless to us and we have to keep on borrowing one from a church members co-worker until we get those drivers.

That's one reason I wait about a year now before considering upgrading an operating system. It gives companies time to make their products compatible with it.

You can still get Latitude laptops with XP - My gut tells me it will get easier to get XP on more brands and models soon

Lifescan Software Vista!!!

It's now March 2008...

I downloaded the software to my Vista laptop...the software opens but it doesn't find my meter...

Anyone got any updates regarding the Vista issue? If Lifescan still hasn't solved the Vista problem then they are totally egregious and ignoring a large population of folks.

Is there a place I can find a driver that will make it work?

I would love to have to not have to keep using my XP pc because my 13 year old has pretty much commandeered that for herself!

Have you tried logging in as admin and running the software? I wonder if one of the safety features of Vista is not allowing the port to be open.

Truthfully, I don't look at this as anyone but Microsoft's fault. I've been dealing with a laptop for my church that we do some video stuff on for over a year now. I had it working a few months back and then Microsoft released an update and disabled our video input converter to which I had to wait till the maker made new drivers for. Microsoft just made Vista a pain for everything by making it "too secure." And if you don't know how to do many admin functions in Windows, then you are SOL with Vista.

It is interesting that I saw this message today. It prompted me to go to the Lifescan site to check if there was anything new. Lo and behold, there it was: Version 2.3.2. It now supports Vista. It found my meter and I have uploaded my readings.

I would like to make a comment though:

It is very easy - and IMHO incorrect - to blame Microsoft. Vista was in development for several years and they worked hand-in-hand with device manufacturers to assist in producing drivers. Manufacturers made a conscious decision not to support Vista when it was first offered - perhaps due to other priorities or marketing decisions.

I didn't realize they have an update. I've had a laptop with Vista since last September and I did get the software to work on my new laptop but it was tempermental and I'm not very good with technical stuff. I'm downloading the update now
