Thinking of 84 (4.7)...

It's funny how amazingly good my blood sugar levels are when I forget to eat.

Yesterday, I was so flooded with work, that I barely got up from my desk. Before dinner, I checked my BG which was 84 (4.7). I checked my pump memory and found that I had only consumed 37 carbs.

I thought for a while about what this meant and I came up with a few theories.

1) Perhaps this was a sign that my basal rates were set properly. After all, I was right on target, and not eating is like doing a basal test, except that I didn't really have all the data points I needed.
2) Maybe this is some kind of sideways confirmation of the benefits or a low carb lifestyle (which I am unwilling to follow)
3) Maybe my carb ratio is off, because when I eat normally I sure have been correcting more lately.
4) Could be that I'm thinking about this too much? It's only one day, and some days are better than others. Do I not have anything better to do that think about this stuff?

Does everyone obsess over this **** like I do? Give me a few thoughts and observations from your own experience, please.

Thanks!

One of the main purposes of my basal testing is so that I can skip meals or change their timing whenever the urge, or non-urge in your case, hits me. Flexibility with control! You're living proof it works.

Question: when you miss meals, do your BGs go wacky after the next one? Mine do. I double my bolus.

No, I haven't noticed that in my case.
Is your next meal larger or somehow different for missing the previous one?

Oh yeah, I obsess over this stuff all the time! I have been known to fall asleep calculating where my numbers went wrong (too much food, not enough insulin, basal vs. bolus)... I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one!
To answer your first question, I would assume that points 1 and 3 are (mostly) correct, because I'm not willing to low-carb (#2), and I can't quantify the effects of #4. If it were me, I might do a quick I:C check (eat something really familar that's low-fat and protein, and see what my normal I:C does for me), but otherwise I wouldn't get too wrapped up in explaining it.

Oh yeah, I'm totally obsessive over this stuff. I am basal testing now as we speak. I want my basals to be perfect, but of course, they aren't lol. It does consume me to have this perfected.

Me? Obsess over my bgs? Nooooooo

You know me well enough to know full well that I never obsess over my bgs... never am able to show meticulous records of bgs, insulin and carbs... never test too often in the fruitless search for perfection...

I encourage you to do so. I find I need at least 4 hours of testing but preferrably more. I found sudden unexpected changes at the 4 hour mark that I'm glad I put the time in to find.

Yea, I know, I am waiting for a good day before, today wouldn't be a good day to start, I ran high last night because of my low, then a little elevated this morning, I promise to skip dinner starting tomorrow......for three days, then I will do lunch, but I already got breakfast down.......lol

Not only do I obsess about it all, but my husband joins in just for laughs. I am on a tangent right now about getting my basals EXACTLY right (with MDI, no less)...and I'm actually closer than I've ever been right now...will be doing yet more testing later this week to see....
I also am constantly looking over what I ate, how my bs reacted, what I did that day....always looking for more info, more clues on how to get this right. I've decided that being obsessive about it may actually make my life more normal, thought only you guys would totally get what I mean by that.
