I'm sure there has been discussions here many times on your choice of meters but I am asking your opinion on the ONES I have.....

I have a BD Logic, an Accu-Chek Advantage, an Accu-Chek Aviva and am using a Precision Xtra. I don't remember why I have all of these..... ....but must have used them at one time. Since I have been on Medicare for 8 years I have used the Precision because I have the test strips mailed from LIBERTY.

The reason I am asking is I am thinking of changing my prescription to another company because of the stubborness of not contacting my dr. for more test strips.

So if one of my other meters is better to you or if you have a fantastic reliable meter that you love .. would you let me know?

If it were only one or two, I would suggest comparing them with your next lab test. I'm not sure that is practical with four of them. Perhaps you could get control solutions (free) from the three manufacturers, test the meters and use the closest one.

How else do you decide which one is "best?"

I haven't used long term and of those meters so I can't really comment on them...but...

My question is how will switching meters help you stop having to contact your doctor? And why do you have to contact him for more? WHo is shorting you?

I've been using the One Touch Ultra since it came out. Great meter, and my Endo downloads the readings to his computer and, get this... actually reviews the info while I'm there!

Don't go with BD Logic, BD is discontinuing their meters and won't be making strips after December of this year. Good news is any of the meter companies will give you a free upgrade to one of their meters if you use a BD logic so you have your choice of what ever meter you want to use now.

Personally, I like my ultrasmart best.

I won't have to stop contacting the dr. It is the strip company that is not doing their job. Well, actually both of them in my opinion.

What it was....was the doctor's office o.k.ed my request for more strips per month but put in a wrong code not matching the doctor's code so they denied it. They claim they faxed the dr. and told them so .... I asked them to fax them again to remind them I need more. Then I gave my dr's office the message they gave me and nothing was done. I asked the company twice more to fax them and I feel it is their responsibility to do so for me...the customer. I am just tired....tired....tired. Yes, I contacted the dr's office three times (they are in the process of moving but are settled now). I also am tired of buying strips for a cheap meter to get the 8 a day I need. That basically is why I don't want to give them any more of my business and want to start over with another company.

i test my OneTouch Ultra meter to a FASTING lab blood glucose level, and i get a POINT 1 or 1.8 variance from the lab results with alarming regularity

i use the Ultra 2 meter now because you can mark your readings as being PRE or POST meal readings for the purposes of graphing your tests

the UltraSmart is a handy meter that allows you to record events, carbs eaten, meds taken, bg levels, etc and it's great for someone who wants a PDA/meter built into one

as someone else has said, the BD meter is no longer being made (it was simply TOO inaccurate)

I use the OneTouch UltraSmart and I love it. It allows me to see what affects my BG levels at each test. My doctor also hooks it up to his computer and reads my results that way at each appointment. The company also just recently sent me the Ultra 2 "as a back up meter". I have never actually used it, but it's nice to know I'll be covered if I need it.

Last year my insurance started only covering AccuCheck meters. Before then, I had used One Touch meters for 11 years, which I really liked. This week I had to use a One Touch Ultra for my test drive of the DexCom CGMS, and was pleasantly surprised to find the AccuCheck Aviva I've been using was usually within 5 points of the Ultra. I feel more comfortable with the Aviva now that I now it gives comparable results to my much loved One Touchs.

I have lots of experience with the AccuChek Advantage, though my personal meter is the AccuChek Compact. No dealing with key code, no carrying a bottle of strips. Just pop the drum in and go.
Been using the Compact for 5 years without issues.
