CGMS- It is on its way

Well got the call from MiniMed today. Insurance approved the CGMS and it was shipped today. So now along with my new 722 I am a happy camper.

Congrats! A lot of people seem to have luck with getting it covered lately.

Great news, Jim. Good luck and keep us posted.

If I'm correct, you have United Health, as I do. I am still waiting to hear back. I've received two letters (copies sent to my endo) within the last 4-6 weeks requesting more information from him before they make a final decision. This last letter is requesting codes & approximate cost.

Yes Karen I do have UHC. However the city I work for is self insured. Thus UHC bids for us to use their name and doctors and plans. They pay the bills and the city sends them a check for what they paid. If the city wants something paid, then they just tell UHC to pay it and they do. So if I need something covered that is not covered, then I call the person in charge of the city, and if they agree it gets paid.

That is how I got my 2nd pump in 2 years. However I did not have to go through that with the CGMS.

They started the CGMS paperwork and everything about 2 1/2 weeks ago when they sent my pump. They told me they would not ship until they got word from UHC that it would be covered. So I don't know if they got word 2 1/2 weeks ago and it is now that they have them to ship, or they got word yesterday and shipped yesterday. Anyway they got to my door at 10am today

Funny you mention this, Jim. I am covered under my husband's insurance and he works for the State of RI. I found out about two months ago through the diabetes specialist at United Health that the State is self insured also. "Betsy" told me not to be surprised if United denies the claim and that I could appeal after that. She said if I lose the appeal, then to contact the State of RI and they could possibly approve it. I asked her why we couldn't do that up front and she told me we had to "follow procedure".

Does any one have any experience with Aetna (POS)? This morning I filled out the paperwork for a 722 (or 522) with CGMS. The Medtronics rep said that she would have a tough time to get it approved by Aetna. Pump OK, but not CGM.
Just curious if anybody is with Aetna.

I am not sure. They set up my pump training for the 22nd. However I already trained myself, but my CDE requires I attend pump training before they will train me on my CGMS. So I go on the 22nd to get trained on the pump I have been using for 3 weeks then will schedule my CGMS training.

Hurray!! I just got one as well. I've been hooked up now for a week. It is great. I have had some issues with attaching the transmitter however. I hope to get it all settled out soon.

That's frustrating. When I switched pumps, I had just gotten a new job and moved. My CDE wanted to me to come to training, I told her I couldn't and told her what I set everything at. She was like, Oh, ok. Sounds like you are all set then and signed off saying I did training with her. She is like my second mom though which was always nice.
