| | | When to test fasting bgl When is the best time to check your fasting BG levels? I get up about 5:00 a.m., shower, dress, go downstairs to put up some coffee, then test. I see that others keep their monitor close by their bed and check as soon as they wake up. Is one way better than the other? Does it make a difference?

| | | Good question...I'm like you, I usually get ready for work, then test. Interestingly, there is a difference if you test immediately upon waking vs waiting an hour or so while getting ready for work....usually the BS upon waking is a little higher. I assume either is okay as long as you've not eaten, drank anything or took any medicine.

Why don't you try each and tell us!
People do find differences. I always test asap. |

| | | My meter is right by the alarm clock I shut off at the foot of the bed anyhow. I figure I might as well find out if I should eat something immediately. |

Test when you wake up and test 1/2 hr later to see if there's a difference. Don't do this every day, just a few times to find out how you behave. |

| | | Okay I admit it I'm bad! Lucky if I test within the first hour. Most of the time after a cup or two of coffee and wake up. |

| | | I keep my meter here in the computer room. So, as long as it's been 8 hours fasting, I get up, go potty, then test and take my insulin and meds. It's basically a ritual with me. I do forget every so often though. Usually, I'm REALLY tired when that happens. I'll kind of wander around aimlessly, in a daze, for about an hour or so, then realize HEY! I need to test and take my meds! LOL

| | | If you test right when you wake, then an hour or so later (fasting) you can determine if you have DP.
I always test immediately when I wake up. I keep a low target and sometimes go a little low at night. I like to adjust right away if I'm low in the morning. If it's hard for me to wake up, then I'm usually low...

| | I tend to get up... turn on the shower... make food (sometimes)... test/calibrate before eating... eat food (sometimes) in shower... finish shower... get ready for work... get to work... test BG as fasting/after meal...

| | | i test after my visit to the loo.
i guess it all depends on whether you experience dawn phenomenon or not. my rise is only very small compared to some but i still prefer to test as early as possible. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
