| | | Testing while driving - yikes! I'm driving home from the gym today and realize I haven't tested before I got in the car. So I reach across the seat into my purse, get out the One Touch Ultra Mini monitor, the vial of strips and the lancet, place a strip in the monitor, prick then test - all while driving. I used to think I would die choking on forbidden candy while driving, but now I will probably kill myself testing instead. Luckily I got a red light so I could get the strip to pick up the blood. If the complications don't get me the management tools will
On another tack - those One Touch strips are for the birds. I waste more of them than I use them. The Contour Ascensia strips take a much smaller amount of blood and never fail me. I wish the monitor were smaller though.

I do think it is pretty sweet though, how I got 3 readings in a row, within 1 point... never happened with the freestyle.
Oh, and I test while driving ALL the time. It is an art, really.

| | | I test all the time while driving. I'm actually pretty skilled at it now. LOL I just have to make sure I get a large enough prick though cause half the blood ends up on the outside of the strip.
On, and the Ultra strips aren't for the birds, it's the Ultra Mini that is. I'm an Ultra user for about 10 years now and have only found the Mini to crunch the strips up. I hope they fix that in the Ultra Mini 2.

| | I've tested at red lights before, but not while moving.
I hate the contour strips, I waste a lot of them. My BD link takes even a smaller drop |

| | I try to test at stop lights. I did test once driving down the mountain but I was stuck in stopped traffic so that was no problem.

| | | I'm sorry (not really), but you people who test while moving are dangerous and ignorant. Hate me if you want, but how would you feel if one of your loved ones got run over by a diabetic who was testing while driving? I can see the headline now: "Diabetic Driver Kills Toddler". Great. Just what we need. More reasons for the DMV to try to restrict diabetic drivers. Real smart. Here on Earth, we have these things called curbs, shoulders, and parking lots, any one of which can be used for emergency stops to test your BG. Use them. And Jedi, you should know better. Shame on you especially.

The time on the mountain, I was stopped in traffic for over 30 mins so plenty enough time to test. Traffic never moved an inch the entire time. So, I don't test while moving, just when stopped.

Tuesday night I was driving home around 8:30 pm after a nasty snow squall when the traffic suddenly stopped. All I could see were falshing lights over the hill in front of me. I figured there was a major accident, but it didn't make sense the way the traffic suddenly stopped - the E-vehicles were there already so it must have been awhile ago. Anyways, 15 minutes later I get over the hill and there's nothing. As I pass the exit, I see three very large flatbeds carrying these I know that's what the were, more-or-less, because they were stopped at the plant that makes them. They apparently didn't have snow tires on But now it bothers me why they were going back to the plant. I think I think too much As I was coming home from a do and grazing, I took the time to test again. |

| | | Stopped is one thing, which is why I wrote "moving" in my message. I'm still not thrilled, but stopped is stopped. The worst thing that can happen is the light changes too soon and you get blood on everything as the guy behind you (me) blows his horn to get you moving.

| | | I agree with Owlyn about someone should not be on the move and testing at the same time. That's probably even worse than using a cellphone, although the cellphone would be for a more extended period of time.
Driving a heavy and deadly object like a car demands full attention.
If you really need to test, it's best if you can find a place to pull over and park. |

| | | I agreee with Owlyn, and would never test while driving. I have a Dex 7 CGM in my shirt pocket, and find I can fish it out easily and get a reading without endangering anybody. I know one shouldn't medicate based on a CGM reading, but if it shows I am under 100 while at the wheel I will grab one or two glucose tablets. |

| | | I'm guilty...
I tend to test in slow moving traffic, or when stopped at intersections. If I have to test while moving then I get my son to help out, so all I have to do is offer him a bleeding finger for a few seconds.
I totally agree that we shouldn't do anything that takes away our concentration while driving... but something like a BG test is something we're doing all the time and I could do it with my eyes shut. So as long as I'm making a point of watching the road more than my meter I'm quite happy to test while driving.

| | | I am T2 but I really needed to test today while I was driving. My BG was all right when I left home but on the way home I became weak and shakey. I did not see a safe place to pull over and did not even consider testing while driving. Luckily I was only 3-4 blocks from home. When I got in the house it was at 77. Not a dangerous low but it is the lowest I have been since I was diagnoised. It really scared me to realize just how quickly I went HYPO.
