Testing Drinks for sugar...

I've said the same thing in another thread just now, but thought i'd post here too.. for anyone who doesn't read the resturant eating forum...

If you have an Accu-Chek Compact Plus meter (the black one) then you can use it to test drinks for sugar... you know, when you go to a resturant and you have doubts about your diet coke actually being diet...

The meter reads ERR if it's diet, but either "HI" or a number if it's not.

Really? That's cool! Do you know if it works with the Aviva as well or just the Compact Plus?

I wonder if this works with all soft drinks or just some of them. Interesting!

i dont know about which other meters work... but it's worth finding out if your meter does... as i found out tonight after i was served (and drank most of) full fat coke. I think the meters that read sugar in drinks will read sugar in any liquid.

If you try it with your meter... try it with a diet and non diet drink so see if there is a difference in the readings.

It's worth posting here if you find that it does... we can build a list of known meters that can test sugary drinks! It's a very useful tool to have for eating and drinking out...

My worry is Splenda vs Nutrasweet and other artificial sweetners may have an effect on the results. I guess I should have asked my question a bit better.

I think it would be interesting to test this out.
