Ascensia Contour weird behaviour

I have an Ascencia Contour since last November and have been very happy with it, sometimes I wish it was the new 5 second version but couldn't justify changing it just because it takes 15 seconds to display results.

Anyhow yesterday evening I was getting ready to leave work and as is my habit I tested before driving, put in the strip, dipped it in the blood drop, meter started countdown put meter down on desk and after the 15 seconds beeped as normal, I look at display and it's showing 9.7 (174.6) start to say "No way" when I notice that there is the little "check mark" you can apply to discard the reading. I KNOW that I didn't press the button to discard the reading, it was displayed it with the reading. It was as if the meter detected an error but did not show an error message and instead automatically rejected the reading. So I tested again and was 4.9 (88.2) which I believe was correct, that's how I felt.

Has anyone had a similar experience with the Ascensia?
