How do you like it?
Is it worth purchasing the Diabetes Management Software Kit
?
I still don't understand why I have to pay for it 
Cos, I spend so much money on test strips, they should give these for free (just like the meter) |

| | Since I couldn't find a "deal" on the cable/software in a reasonable amount of time, I finally caved last week and popped for the $29+free shipping at drugstore.com for the OneTouch Diabetes Management Software Kit v.2.3.2 with a USB cable to use with my Ultra2 on my PC. I tried shmoozing one J&J rep, three pharmacists, two physicians, one RD, four R.N.s, and a homeless man who wiped my windshield?! None of them would give me the kit for free! So I didn't score the cable, but I was able to significantly increase my notoriety amongst formerly important social acquaintances?! 
Anyway, I was already "up to here" (in only my first two weeks) with manually keeping track on little pieces of paper every time I poked myself, and ate new food, and exercised, and took BP readings, etc., etc., etc.
...So bottom line -- I love it, doc loves it, nice install, nice user-friendly s/w, quick downloads from the meter -- pretty much everything I was hoping for -- all in a swell graphic display that's easy to read.
I'm still a little miffed about the $29 tho...

I looked at some diabetes management software and decided that it was all too complicated. Same with calorie counting, although weight has never been a problem for me. (I am a post-op Whipple.)
Using the spreadsheet in 'Open Office' (which is free, just download & install it), I record my GL at wake-up, before lunch and before dinner. Using the total GL, divided by the total number of samples, gives me a progressive average. The averages have been confirmed by the laboratory blood tests done at the hospital.
The spread sheet can also display the results as a graph. Not very sophisticated, but it works for me.
As indicated above, I only test before each meal but you could also do tests at 2 hour post meals if you have the time and inclination.
I have uploaded a PDF file of this months readings if anyone is interested. The high points in the graph indicat the months when I was not using insulin due to my needle-phobia.

Cheers, | That is the advantage of this software it does all of that for you, for someone like me testing 6-10 times a day, it would take hours to enter all of these results by hand. I have a separate spreadsheet with carbs quantities for meals and insulin things. |

(Though I suppose I could just print and bring my own charts!) |

Although I erase my meter test results once in a while as it can take a while to download 450 odd test results each time I synchronise with my computer, but only after I have backed up the results on my computer. I printed all my results out, but it eats so much paper, i think next time i will just take in my laptop save the trees. |

| | | About 6 years ago, I had a website that would allow you to upload readings from your meter, and along with some "canned" reports you could create custom reports. It would also generate charts, graphs, etc... You could then decide who could log in and access your information. The site was built completely from scratch, but eventually I took the site down, as an individual I did not want to get in any trouble for handling people's personal medical data. Glad to see some major organization create something similar and is making it work. This kind of stuff could really help people in rural areas.

I am currently a Software Architect for a company called HealthIntegrated.com and might be developing a similar site for them if my funding doesn't come through.
It's such a great idea, it just needs to be perfected. My little site took over 2 years to develop working in the evenings. I applied to a Venture Capitalist and things are looking good so please think good thoughts and we can make the best Diabetic Management System for us all. |

I'm happy to get a glucose reading out of that darn meter! I like my mini's better! |
