Ascencia Contour battery life?

I read the manual recently and i discovered the batteries are supposed to be good for 1000 tests, i am currently on my 1937th with no low battery indicator. I wondered if anyone else has just kept on using it without replacing batteries? I doubt it makes much of a difference.

I'm wondering if you just program in the basics and not the whole thing such as pre/post testing, alarm for testing time etc whether you have a longer battery life. I just use the basic BG test on mine but don't know how many of the 1000 I've used so am not any real help. I guess you could phone Bayer on the toll free number and they could tell you.

I have had mine for at least 4 years and never changed a battery or had anything say "low battery". Should I change it?
