Course Dave, its always best to have a back-up meter, just in case one starts to play up, me personally I have 3, two I used constantly, and one still in the box, Accu-Chek Compact plus.

B/7 ESSEX UK.

Well I just tried calling Bayer, explained that I'm using their older 15 second meter and was looking to get a meter with a faster result and some more features and that before I went looking at getting a Onetouch I wanted to see if Bayer had any upgrade policy for existing customers and was told that there is no upgrades at the moment for users of the 15 second model but that they could put me through to somebody to buy one. Said that's fine, perhaps Lifescan will send me one of theirs and I'll get my test strip prescription changed. So it's off to the shop or call Lifescan I guess, it's hard to believe they would let an existing customer walk away so easily.

That's a shame. Do you mean you have to buy your meter? Over here they give them for "free" on the purchase of 100 test strips. Did mention to them how often you are testing?

Dave , I would call and speak with another person. That's what I do if I don't get the result I want the first time.
You could always tell them, fine, if you dont want to send me the newer meter free, then I will switch to Lifescan since they have offered me a free meter, software and cable, strips , etc and seem to want my buisness more than you do.! That might change their tune and get you some extra freebies while at it.

The US Bayer site has the meters for free, maybe they do for your area too.

I got my first meter free from my Doctor and reckon he will give me a prescription for a new meter if I want, but I don't want to Bayer getting paid for the meter by our NHS. It's possible my Doctor will have one to give me when I see him next month. I did tell them that my monthly prescription is for 200 strips but that didn't seem to have any impact.

I did try the Lifescan will give me one for free line, no effect. Unfortunately the UK/Ireland Bayer site make no reference to free meters. In fact the canister my strips come in have a note "NOT for SALE in U.S.A. or CANADA". They see us all as diabetics but don't treat us equally.

I have not given up on getting one from Bayer as now they've got my back up !

I have never had to deal with Bayer themselves... ask your pharmacist/chemist (Boots?) if they supply them free with the purchase of strips

I use one meter, but have an older one around. I have used it on a few occasions when I thought the reading was wrong on my main meter. It has always proven to be correct, so I don't even bother with the spare now.

What software do you use? I use the FreeStyle Lite meter and was going to get there software but they require you to load the software on your computer. This is my work computer and i'm a bit nervous loading my blood sugars on this computer. How much does it cost?

What meter companies often do is give "rebate" coupons equal to the price. So if you want to stick w/Bayer, call them and ask if they have any rebate offers going. Some just can't bear to call it "free."
