My first meter was a Precision Xtra, and i still keep it for Ketone testing. I also have a blue Accu-Chek Compact and an Accu-Chek Aviva (my main meter now) and the new black Compact meter (on-the-go meter i mainly use at work for AST testing, and other times when AST is most convenient).

I sure have backups It's good to have in case something happens with the main meter... I have prescription for strips for Aviva and Compact, and also ketone strips for the Xtra.

I am however thinking about letting the Xtra retire for good now, and upgrade to an Xeed for ketone testing...

I have 3 on the go at the moment - One Touch Ultras - one stays home, one is in whichever bag I am carrying and one is in my sports bag. I also have another and am considering keeping it in the glove compartment of my car. I like to have back-up!

Dave, I hope that you are able to get an upgrade and keep the one you have now for back-up. Good luck to you.

I've got 3 meters and I've only been at this for a little over a month.

My primary meter is the One Touch mini. Also have a Contour that was "given" to me when I went consult with a dietician. The One Touch and Contour read pretty close to each other.

I also bought a Relion from Walmart because the strips are cheaper ( my insurance only pays for 2 strips / day). I find it consistently higher than the Contour or One Touch though. Sometimes 50 pts higher! I don't need that kind of detrimental reinforcement so I've been sticking with the One Touch Mini lately because that's what my insurance is currently paying for. I've bought a few of the Contour strips out of pocket because I like the averages the Contour provides. It will either be the Contour in the long run or upgrade to a Lifescan Ultra 2.

Only gripe with the One Touch Mini though is the strips don't seem to be cut correctly on 1 / 50 strips or so and it doesn't fit into the meter correctly. This has only happened 2 or 3 times though so far but still a waste.

Well, I was with my Doctor this morning (I really like my Doctor) and mentioned the hassle I had with Bayer, he said hang on, disappeared and came back with an OneTouch Ultra Easy apologised that it wasn't a Bayer to match the one I have. But said he can change my strip prescription and give me a second onetouch if I want. So I'll be calling Bayer today and giving them the option to send me a free meter or lose my business, as my Doctor said this morning "You are obviously taking your diabetes management seriously, so should I and every involved in your care, including suppliers of strips etc"

I have two meters now

So I'll be calling Bayer today to give them one last chance.

I currently have 2 Accu-Chek Aviva's and a 3rd one on the way. I keep one at work, and carry the other with me. The 3rd one will be kept at home full-time.

I've also got a OneTouch Ultra2 on the way. I want to play around with it, as I may end up on the newest OneTouch system that works with the MiniMed pump, as I anticipate going on the pump in the next few months.

Regards,

Angry Bayer ... Grrrr!

Ok, so I have been onto Bayer again

I had called the support line last week and had to leave a message, was told they would call back .... guess what they didn't.

So I called again today and got to speak to a person. Explained I was going away to a rural part of Italy and that my Doctor wanted me to have a second meter and that he would have given me one if he had it in the office.

I got the "we don't supply second meters for free, I can put you onto a company to buy one if you want". I said that I didn't want to buy one, I use 200 strips and 200 lancets a month that while these are currently with Bayer, my doctor will happily give me two OneTouch meters and change my prescriptions over to OneTouch is Bayer don't want the business and which point I'm told "we don't supply second meters for free, I can put you onto a company to buy one if you want".

So I told her, that I don't want to buy a meter, why should I buy one, when I can get two OneTouch for free and that I was only offering them the chance to keep my business but that obviously my business is of no interest to them and yet again she came out with the "we don't supply ..." mantra. I did mention that if I lived in the USA I'd be able get a meter through the Bayer Website, and guess what the mantra was rolled out again. So sod them! They've had their two bites at the cherry .... I'm off to switch to OneTouch grrrr

Sorry for the rant

Don't apologize for the rant, David. You have every right to be upset with them. I use the One Touch line and I'm pretty pleased with it.
If you really want to stay with Bayer, I would be very happy to order an extra Bayer meter for you and send it to you if you think it would work. I may be able to get it to you before your trip. I'm willing to give it a try to get one for you. Let me know.

Cin,

Thanks for the offer, I can get two OneTouch here for free so that's what I'll do.

Charlotte,

Thanks for the offer also, as I say I can get two OneTouch meters for free from my Doctor, so I'm going to get away from Bayer, their loss.

Thank you both.

I have six meters out and in use. I have three One Touch Ultra 2's (kitchen, bedroom, office) and then also three Ultra Minis (purse, desk, bedroom). THEN I have 4 unused meters on hand in a drawer...

It's good to have more than one to double check, because you don't know when one my break or the battery die, and for convenience sake.
