| | Should I have more than one meter? Just wondering how many people have more than one meter? I noticed in a recent post about an unexpected high reading, it was suggested/asked if the reading was checked with a second meter.
Is it advisable to have a second meter? I was think of getting a second one (another contour so I can use same strips) as I'm going to Italy at end of July, the area I'm going to is fairly rural so not so sure how easy it would be to get a meter if my own failed.
What do you think?

| | | Heck why not? There are so many ways to get free meters (check the diabetic freebies thread). Pharmaceutical companies give them away like crazy cause they are raping us on strip prices. |

| | | I got a second meter same model as my first for free from a gestational diabetic who no longer needed hers (Craigslist.org). I like having just one prescription for test strips. I have tested them together on the same drop of blood and they are very close. Thankfully the battery is so common I can get a replacement at any nearby grocery store and just use it on whichever meter dies next.

| | I have one at home and another in my jacket pocket so it's always with me. They are both Contour (+ MM Link) but I don't tend to check one against the other... if I have a reading I don't trust, I will recheck with the same meter but using the other hand or at least a different finger, and a better drop of blood. As an aside, I find the Contour people may say it will take a tiny sample but I find it less reliable unless I give it a good drop to work with, and allow the test strip to suck it up
What I would be interested in, is knowing if anyone is using the cable and software and if so is it possible to merge the results from multiple meters?

| | | I have six, but I primarily use my two links.
They are basically cheap electronic devices. Their continued existence is tenuous at best: loss, stomps, drops, submersion, battery failure, etc. |

| | | I get a new meter anytime there's a free one offered. There are often coupons in our local papers for free One-Touch Mini's...i've had 4-5 of these and give them to family members who still have their first meter from years back.
Not sure how it is in Ireland, but our local CVS pharmacy gives a free meter each quarter.
I like the idea of having one for work, one for home, just for backup..but I don't generally check them against each other.

I prefer to manually enter my readings in an Excel sheet as I find the process of entering the numbers re-enforces how I am doing and highlights when I slip or something goes awry. If I get another contour I'll check it out for you.

| | I've long had 2 of the same type, one at home, one to carry around (now Ultra2s). With all of the recent give-aways, I've gotten a couple of extras, and I'll probably give them away to a doctor friend who spends several months a year running a health clinic in rural Mexico. I'd like another UltraLink (I haven't gotten it all set up yet, but when I do ... ), but they aren't giving away 2nds yet that I've been able to find. |

I will upload sometime this week with a couple of them and see what I get.
I have tons of meters , and thru different family members , different strips. If I get a strange reading , I usually just retest with the same meter. I might pull out a different one, just out of curiosity. I am mostly using One Touch meters right now, since I like the linking feature to my pump. |

| | | Ive got multiple meters. So if one starts acting funny, I always have a backup. My wife is making me get rid of some so I always find co-workers that want/need them.

| | | David, I have 4 of the Ultra meters (Ultra, UltraSmart, Ultra2, Ultra Mini). I also have a Freestyle that is new, never been opened. I've been holding on to the Freestyle until I see what strips are covered by the new ins we will be getting in July.
