So, I'm being bloodletted every 15 minutes.

I'm currently at the Rainier Clinical Research Center. I'm doing a trial for Abbott's Freestyle Navigator. I have two of them hooked up to me... One in my abdomen, one behind my right upper arm. They are decidedly bigger transmitters than the MiniLink.

I had to get here by 6AM this morning, a hep-lock was placed, and I was allowed to finish my mocha frap... Let's just say that I started the trial with a nice and high bg for them. Then I overbolused for said mocha, so I had to have "breakfast"...yuck.

For the first two hours after being hooked up, I had to check my bg every 15 minutes. At the same time, they drew blood out of my hep-lock for a venous bg. I don't get to see the results of the CGMS, that's quite a bummer, I'd really like to know how accurate it is.

I'm in a room with a nice lady who is also a T1. She was just dxed 4 years ago. We have a lot to talk about. Though, I got bored a little, so plugged in my laptop and am taking advantage of the free wifi that they offer here...(though I have to smack the two Abbott Labs reps, they're killing the bandwidth here).

I'm here until 9:30 tonight, after two calibrations. Then I go home and do a calibration at 24 hours and 72 hours, that's it. Nice, eh?

So, I'll probably jump into the chat sometime tonight. Especially if I get bored with other stuff around here...!

Okay Rikki..you win the award for most "unusual" day today. I was feeling sorry for myself being stuck in the room with a "gassy" co-worker....but i'm thinking I could be being "bloodletted" every 15 minutes...so things aren't too bad! Hope you get paid well...or at least get some good freebies out of your day.

Oh no. I think I would rather have a hep-lock than be in the same room as the burping co-worker.

You two have a nice day!

Hey Rikki, ask them how much lower your next A1c might be due to the bloodletting. I'm curious.

Yes, I'm getting paid, very well, for all this bloodletting... $1200. Actually this is going to the mortgage since I'm not doing Vegas now. I may have a little fun first, but yeah, bills most likely.

They laughed at me when I asked. I don't think it's going to matter much at all...they're only taking out 1/2cc every 15 minutes.

So much for "no such thing as a stoopid question" huh?

So that's only 30cc's total. Yeah, that's not enough. Ask them to drain you good before they unhook you - might as well start fresh with the red blood cells!

I'd have done it if I weren't getting paid...just don't tell them that! I had no idea I was getting paid until I came to the first appointment for bloodwork and they told me the procedures. I was actually going to save the money for Vegas, but since that doesn't seem to be happening, I'm going to pay bills with it.

Rikki, I'd have gone with you, but someone forgot to send me details on the trial. Oh well. Maybe next time.

You couldn't have gone with me, Jason. The study is full right now. They did give me the information to give to you to sign up to be a guinea pig too, though.
