how long after eating apple should i test for bg

How long after either eating an apple or ice cream should I test for my blood sugar reading. I am 65 years old and have just been told that I have type 2 diabetes.

Are you testing to see how your blood sugar reacts to these foods? Normally I test before a meal, then 21/2 hours after I started eating. Most people check at the 2 hour point, but 21/2 works best for me. I only test after a snack if I was having a low before I ate it or when I was trying to see what different foods did to my BS.
And welcome to the forum.

I think at 2 hours after eating go and test and there you should be at neer fasting levels again, Don't be too fussed if you don't. Go for a walk and have a test after the walk and you should see a fasting level. It would be also a good idea to test at 1 hour after eating as this should be the maximum BG.

Hi there, and welcome!

Both of those foods are likely to cause a quick, sharp spike. Generally 2 hours after taking your first bite is a good rule. Aiming for about 20 mg/dl above your pre meal (some shoot for less than/more than 20...), two hours after, is a good target. After 3-4 hours, a bg reading matching your pre meal is desired.

G'day sirk, I'm sorry you have been dx'd with diabetes , but you have come to a fabulous place to learn about it & take good care of yourself.
Since my dx I have 3 meals a day & only have a snack in between as a reward for working/ exercising hard enough . Then it's an apple or yoghurt & I dont usually test after these.
I test 2hrs after a meal & the first thing in the morning.
