3 day CGMS. Need your thoughts.

My endo wants to do a 3 day CGMS run on me starting June 30th. He and I both seem to believe that something is going on somewhere that we aren't seeing. I don't believe I will be able to see the results until he downloads the info. If insurance refuses to cover the 3 day run, it's gonna cost me $160 out of pocket. That's not a big deal. I just wonder if the 3 day run will help us see where the problem lies. Has anyone else done the 3 day system? I want to get control over this monster we call diabetes !!!!

Other than $160??? What harm will it do? I say do it. If you can, try to keep those 3 days as typical as you can. If you're extra active or eating differently, it may be harder to figure out "what's going on."

I say go for it. Compared to A1c which is an average and can be misleading if you have highs and lows which cancel each other out to make the A1c look good. Or BS testing which even at 8-10 times a days still only gives you snapshots in time. CGMS should shows you trends, overnight levels and give a much better picture of your BS over a typical day.

John, are you thinking the problems are basal related?

Yes, and I'm thinking his strategy coupled with CGMS would reveal a lot.

I have had use of that 3 day cgms tool twice in the last 5 years. Each time it helped isolate some overnight issues for me. My only gripe is it doesn't display what it's reading until the tech downloads the whole thing.

Didn't cost me anything and was almost completely administered by the minimed rep. Doc decided he wanted me to have it (wrote a script no doubt) and I never got bill. Rep helped install it, gave us the shower bags, instructed us on doorknob hazards, etc. I did get a copy of the results.
