Erratic Reads.

As a pre Diabetic I have been watching my numbers for nearly two years now.. I have been rather disturbed to find recently that my numbers were running higher seemingly no matter what I did to change.. Exercise, less carbs, ect. Depressing.

My morning readings just kept creeping up from my old near 100 readings, to 136 the other day.. After meals were also higher than I was used to.

Then I took the Reli-On meter I was using and checked it against the One Touch I had stopped using about a year ago do to cost of strips.. For 24 hours I checked several times the two.
this mornings was the most dramatic.. I had a 126 on the Reli-on and 94 on the one touch.
Yesterday I had 136 on the Reli-On and 109 on the One Touch.
After dinner last night I had 130 on the Reli-On and 103 on the one touch.

I admit it seemed odd that things were slowing creeping upward with no seeming reason, but I was just afraid it was a natural pattern. At one point the two meters were only a few points different, but something evidently has gone wrong with the Reli-On meter. I feel better, but wonder why it should have gone so off?

For what it is worth, I use a One Touch and it reads 14.7% lower than the lab glucose. Comparing two meters to get a reading you like better isn't scientific. IMHO

I have never used Reli on and don't have an opinion about it.

Don't forget that all meters have a 10% +/- inaccuracy and then you have other factors such as taking blood from different fingers or washing your hands with different soaps etc. It’s hard to prove which meter is inaccurate unless you had a third meter but even then you have the same inaccuracy issues. Try replacing the batteries in both meters but I doubt it would make much of a difference.

When I first got the Reli-On it was almost the same all the time as the One touch.. But not considerably higher. I know statistically it may not be much in the larger picture. But when your worried about going consistently over that 125 marker, then it starts to become an issue for me. I would hope the One Touch is closer.. When I had my lab work done the one touch I have was very close within I think 2 points. Just as in the meters I also find that depending on which lab does work that they can also have a rather wide variation.

One lab decided my morning after a huge breakfast was 71. That would have been by far the lowest reading I ever saw with a meter. I never have even been close to that. But they insisted it was correct so who knows what happens.
