Bayer Breeze 2

Just wondering if anyone has used this meter before? What are your thoughts?

I entered a draw to get a free Bayer Breeze 2 following a link from the UK Diabetes Newsletter, low and behold a had a parcel arrive yesterday in the post with a new Breeze 2 inside!

It has a 10strip disk in it so you dont need to handle the test strips (like the accu-chek compact plus) but doesn't have an electronic mechanism for releasing the strips, instead you pull the bottom of the meter out and push back again to release the strip.

I found the meter "feel" quality a little low compared to the compact plus or the ultrasmart.
There's no backlight on the Breeze 2, which makes testing in the dark a little difficult.

It is however really easy to use and load, and unlike the compact plus, if you take out the disk in the middle of of it's use, you can find the right place to put it back in again and turn it on a few times so the reading of "strips left over" on the screen is accurate.

The Breeze 2 has a 1 day average feature (i haven't seen that on any other meter i've used so far) as well as 7, 14 and 30 day averages.

The lancet device that comes with the Breeze 2 i think is also pretty good, again the "feel" quality isn't great, but the lancing action itself was for me, virtual pain free.

Not impressed with the case for the Breeze 2, it seems like it's upside down and back to front for me, not a big issue i suppose but it is a little annoying from a personal point of view

I would give this meter..... maybe 6.5 out of 10.

If they could improve the quality of the materials so it doesn't feel plasticy and cheap and make the button cover feel more secure when it's shut (almost feels like it's gonna just flap open all the time), a better screen that either lights up or has illuminous text (like the compact plus mk2) then it could score higher from me. (yeh, im sure Bayer aren't concerned about my scoring )

I havent' looked at or tried the software that goes with the meter yet, but it is linkable to a PC for downloading the readings!

Anyone else used this meter? what are your thoughts?
