BG Levels in warmer weather - what to expect?

Okay, so I asked about bring a 2nd meter on Holidays with me this month and have that all sorted now

But I never asked if people find moving to a warmer climate/weather has any impact on their BG numbers?

I just checked and the current temperature in Italy, where I'm going at the end of next week is 30 deg C (86 F), which 12 deg C (24 F) warmer than it is in Dublin, so I wonder if I can expect higher/lower numbers with the change in temperature.

And yes, I may well have OCD or maybe I just like being prepared, you decide

Surely you know by now David... EVERYTHING has an effect on your BS

Seriously... flying, different time-zones, different food, different daily activities... relax and have fun but don't forget to keep a weather-eye on your D from time to time

As for what to expect... I guess it depends... if hot weather slows you right down, as it does me, you can expect higher BS but don't be surprised if you go lower

Obesity and Type 2 are strongly associated. Most people assume that Obesity is the cause and Diabetes the effect. It is equally valid to suggest that the underlying metabolic disorder which leads to the Type 2 causes the Obesity.

If you're going where its hotter temps than you're used to, make sure you keep well hydrated...if I let myself get overheated and dehydrated, I tend to get a little lower BS-wise and feel more tired. Plus, you'll feel better staying hydrated...win/win.

Also, I find I get WAY more exercise when i'm on vacation and BS levels are usually quite a bit better than "average," even if I sometimes eat a little less rigidly. Since you sometimes note lower BS anyway, i'd make sure to have some snacks on hand in case you get even lower with all the running around you'll be doing.

Just pay attention to your blood sugars like you do already, and you should have no problems.

I like it! OCDavef.

Warmer weather will lower your insulin requirements (generally). Notice I put generally in parenthesis. While on vacation you usually eat more so that should offset your lower requirements. I find vacation in general is just harder on my blood sugar. It is a good time to throw caution to the wind and just do the best you can without stressing about your blood sugar to much. You will have a few days that you are higher than you like.

I love Italy. Can I go too???

Warmer weather = lower sugar as a whole.

Thanks guys.

Guess OCDave just likes being prepared in some way, shape or form.

Frank, I did reckon on the everything effects our BS, diabetes is consistently inconsistent right?!

Linda, there's a pool in the place we are staying (there's only four houses on the entire site ) so I plan on using the pool A LOT, I love swimming, so hope to get in at least one proper swim each morning and then splash about with the kids afterwards. I'll be keeping snacks/juice on hand and plan on indulging in some real pasta while there

Nancy, come on over, we're going to a place just outside a small village (San Venanzo) in Umbria. Just an hour from places like Assisi, so lots of walking and photography for me

Here's some shots of where we are going:

I didn't take the photos but hope to get some decent ones while I'm there.
