| | | Anyone ever try the home A1C test? Has anyone ever tried that at home A1C test? I did a couple years back and it didn't see to work to well for me. But anyways I was thinking about another one since I haven't been to the endocronologist in quite some time, but I don't really know how much more effective they are now or if they even are.

| | | I didn't know you could get the home tests anymore. I have done a couple in the past, and the results were pretty close to what the doctor's test was.

| | | Reli On makes them and you can buy them at Wal Mart. They have been right on the money with my Doctors a1c, and they are cheap. You can get the relsuts back via the internet or they have a very quick turnaround. Bio Safe was doing this as well as Cholestrol, etc, but went bankrupt. They were also pretty accurate.

| | | I've never tried one but I know Duck has taken several of them in the past. You may be able to find his previous threads using search. I know that around here, they sell them in the Wal-Mart pharmacy for about $9. I'm thinking of buying one this month. I will have blood drawn next month so I'm gonna try to do it close to that time.

| | | I have an appt. with my Dr. for bloodwork on 1-19 (including an A1C). I think I will swing by Wal-Mart on the way home and pick up one of the ReliOn tests, send it off on the same day and compare. I get my results from the Dr. on the 22nd. I've always wondered myself how close the store bought results
would compare with the lab results...
I've also heard that when you buy the kits on-line, they are sold with 10 tests per box (for around $100), but you have to use them within 1 year or they expire. I would like to have the convenience of an instant result, but only needing 4 tests per year, the other 6 would go to waste.
I guess if you had a couple of friends or family members who also tested, that would be a good deal. Alas, I am the only one in the family who would use them, and no one I know has diabetes. |

| | Try BioIQ. I've been using their home A1c and Cholesterol tests every three months with a lot of success. My wife first found these guys through her company wellness program so I'd thought I'd give it a shot. The prices are a little higher, but the product is really high quality and the results have been dead on with what my Dr. is seeing. The site tracks my results over time so it's pretty neat to be able to see that. |

| | | Just Received Home A1c Test Kit I ordered a Bayer A1c test and just received it last night. It contains a little meter that supposedly gives you a digital read out of your results in 5 minutes. I just had blood work done by my doctor so I think I'll wait a month or so before I try it. It wasn't cheap; $30.00 for a kit that contains 2 tests. It sounds like they have come a long way since the ones you had to mail in for analysis.
Here's a link if you'd like to read about it: A1CNow - Giving Real Time A1C Results
I'll post results when I've actually used it.
I'm really happy I found this forum. I've met some very nice people all willing to help others so freely.

| | It's your money, so I obviously can't sway your decision as to when to use it, but you should try it soon after your Doctor's visit and let us all know how accurate it is :P

| | | I think a lot of people now are doing one or another a1c test or cholestrol panel at home. BioQ does them and you can get the results back on the internet. Reli On from Walmart also does the a1c and they are right on with the doc's office and you get the results back in about 3 to 4 days on the internet

| | My Bayer A1cNow SelfCheck Results I haven't felt well for 2-3 days, so this probably wasn't the best time to try it. But I've had a Bayer A1c test here for a while now...and I just tested myself. My A1c was 6.6 at the lab where I was diagnosed in late May, and this test showed a 6.0.
I know. It's better than at dx, but with everything I'm doing I'd hoped for a better reading than that. I'm trying very hard to be in the "5% Club" and thought surely I'd come it at around 5.6...or even less. I do remember someone writing in that one of these A1c tests came in rather high compared with the one done at the lab.
I'm being retested later this month at the doc's lab, and will use the second test at that time to better compare results. I'll report back then.
