hmmm..

I wonder what they would do in your case...

I am sorry, I mis-interpreted your first post. now that I have gone back, I see where you were going (not covered AT ALL)... I can be dense sometimes.. my apologies.

I would recommend you call and see if they would work with you on the promise program without insurance. Couldn't hurt.

And on a side note, after all this thread and how I said I am going to stick with the freestyle, I (for several dumb little reasons which I am about to post about in a new topic) am going back to Lifescan/one touch.

My insurance just recently changed my formulary so my co-pay for my onetouch strips went up. I have been a onetouch user for my entire diabetic life and was heart broken that I had to switch to save money. BUT I've been using an accu-check aviva for about 3 weeks now and I really love it. I really like the fact that the vials of test strips come in quantity of 100. I also like that you have a chip to code the meter instead of having to do it yourself. I went from one touch ultra to ultra smart to ultra mini, and while my aviva isn't as small as the ultra mini (and not as cute in hot pink ) it's getting the job done. I also ordered a freestyle lite and I hate it. Those strips are stupid in my opinion. The only nice thing about it is the fact that it has a LED light to light up the test strip area. Although, I never find myself wishing my meter had one. One thing I do wish my aviva had was a lit up display screen.

Anyone know anything about accucheck software? Do they offer it, is it any good? I didn't think the one touch software was very user friendly....

The TrueTrack meter is sold by several stores, with the individual store's logo on it. (I have an American Fare & a Safeway one too.)

It's a pretty decent meter, inexpensive strips, especially if you know where to go online to get them cheaply. It does seem to read towards the lower end of the 20% variance, but they're consistent - I've tested both of them side by side & they're always within 5 points of each other, while my other meters (an ultra-mini & an aviva) bounce around!

I need to find out if the Aviva is covered under my insurance plan and the cost of test strips. I am shelling out $30 + oops for additional test strips per month.

Is the Aviva whole blood or plasma?

Stupid question, but please don't flame me...

How do you know if your meter is accurate or not? I use the One Touch Ultramini. I have used same meter since original diagn., a little over a year. Never had errors, unless I didn't give enough of a sample. Do you retest right after? My fingers hurt enough without doing it twice!

I'm currently using a WaveSense Jazz and have been very pleased. I've been meaning to post a review, but have been too busy.

Can't speak to accuracy yet, but it seems very consistent: I did a back to back when I first got it and got 119 and 118 about 60 seconds apart.

It's also pretty friendly about filling the test strip. The sample size is tiny and if you don't immediately fill it, you do get a slight moment to give it more. It doesn't always give an error when you fail to fill it though. I got a 127 pre-lunch today and hadn't come close to filling the window (the drop spread out on my finger instead of staying bubbled!). Did a test right after that filled the window on a second strip and got 112. Usually it says ER 2 or ER 4 if the window doesn't fill.

I use the Jazz because it uploads results to the computer. I like the software WaveSense has. Makes it easy for me to log my foods and see trends.

From what I understand, the Presto is just a Jazz without the fancy built-in stat functions. They use different test strips. The Presto's costs half as much!

I'm paying a premium for Jazz strips... but it is the right meter for me.
