Best Time to Test Gloucose in the Morning

Hi There,

As soon as I awake about 3:30 am, I test the gloucose in bed to find that is in the ~115 range. But if it is tested halfh an hour after that and walking around the house preparing breakfast, etc..it drops to ~102.

Which test is correct?

Thank you for your input and/or comments.

Vince

What is correct is to test at the same time if you have a routine. That way you can compare apples to apples. You BG will fluctuate over 24 hours. Keeping it consistent time will help you discover trends

Strictly speaking they are both correct at the time you tested, allowing for a tolerance of +/- 10%-20% of the meter.

But Volley gave you sound advice, decide on a routine and stick to it. My routine in the morning is wake, shower, test, take meds. Same thing everyday. The time of my test may vary as I don't always wake at the sametime but I following the same routine.

One possibility for the difference is that your liver will dump "sugar" into your blood stream as your body prepares to wake, when you tested later you body was dealing with that dump.

I usually test as soon as I wake up (early, like you) and then test again before I eat so that I can take the right amount of insulin.

I am confused because all my tests are within range throughout the day. The problem is in the morning (fasting) . Just cannot pinpoint the spike as to why that is.

Thank you for ya'lls reply.
