Dexcom reciever fell in the toilet!!! wont turn on

dropped my dexcom receiver in the toilet and grabbed it out right away (was in for about 2 seconds). Shook out as much water as possible, then pressed a button and the screen was illuminated, but blank. I then pressed the reset button in the back and the reciever turned off but now will not come on. I'm really worried. The reciever is currently sitting with a blow dryer on low about a foot and a half away from it blowing to try to get the last of the water out (not getting too warm).

Any advice on what to do? Do you think dexcom will replace the reciever if it wont turn back on?

Cannot vouch if this idea works or not, but it wouldn't hurt the Dexcom receiver. I read this idea on the Internet for cell phones that get dropped into the loo. Put the phone in a bowl of uncooked rice and supposedly the rice absorbs the moisture that is inside the phone. My brother put his cell phone through the entire wash cycle at the laundromat, took it out, laid it on a towel for three days and lo and behold after it dried out ....it worked!!! Best wishes to you

Pull the batteries if you can. The batteries don't like getting wet and will short things out. Dry the reciever without batteries and put a fresh set in when you think it is dry.

Take Nancy's advice and remove the batteries, and leave it sitting in a warm dry place, without the battery cover on, for several days AT LEAST. Don't get in a hurry and try and use it any sooner- if there is a possibility that it is OK, rushing things could very likely kill that chance.

If it doesn't work after that, you can try calling Dexcom and pleading your case, but I wouldn't hold my breath on the chances they'd replace it for free under such circumstances. Though, you never know, so it doesn't hurt to try!

I would avoid using a blow dryer and give it a few days to dry out. I dropped my blackberry in a pool and it took 3 days of leaving it in the sun for it to dry out completely, after which it worked fine. Since the Dexcom doesn't really have any openings in the case it could take a lot longer.

You could try prying the case open to let it dry but that's at your own risk. That would be last resort if you can't get them to replace it.

thanks for the advice...

I called their on call tech support since Dexcom is closed for the holiday weekend; the rep told me to leave it on the charger and in a bowl of rice, she then told me that I will get a call from Dexcom on Monday morning to see what can be done.

Tried starting it today (after about 36hrs in rice bowl) with no success.

I'll let you guys know what happens on Monday
