error code E-5 with AccuChek Compact Plus

Has anyone gotten this error code and resolved it? I searched the web and they say to clean the reader, but I don't know what that is. I am switching to the OneTouch UltraSmart anyway, but I was hoping to keep my readings current before a doc appointment in a week.

      Thanks!

Read the booklet that comes with the meter! Just lightly wipe a Q-tip over the area where the test strip pops out.

      Why switch meters?

I threw that booklet away! I don't like keeping that kind of stuff (until I need it - DOH!).

I want to switch meters to pick up the capability to lag information and get summary readouts.

So it does. I did not know that. However, I am under the impression that the UltraSmart allows you to enter other info besides BG readings. Like mealtime carbs and exercise. I plan on carrying it with me and I am a little concerned about its size. We'll see.

i have the same meter... when you open the meter to put in a new drum, the section where the strip pops out is where it needs to be cleaned... just take a q-tip, very very very very lightly dampen it, maybe with a very small drop of water and clean the area where the strip pops out, both inside and outside of the meter... if you think the section might still be wet, then use the other side of the q-tip to absorb the leftover moisture...

this usually happens when there's human error but the meter can't find anything wrong with the mechanics inside so it says it's dirty... i was slow in getting my drop of blood into the strip last night and the meter gave me the same code... i opened and closed the meter, it spun the drum again and even though it said for me use the control solution and kept the drum icon in the window, it still worked until i changed the drum... i did this because i had over 10 strips left in the drum still being used...

I had tried opening and closing it, but it still gave me this error. Lacking a q-tip and an alcohol solution, I just blew very hard at the area and then it worked. I see the measurement window now that I look closely. So, back in business.

      Why Switch Meters?

In my opinion, the whole Accu-Check product line is junk. I had three Avivas and if you used all three of them to test from the same drop of blood, you were lucky if the readings were within 150 points of each other. I could have done better throwing darts at a dart board to get BG numbers.

Switched, zero problems with accuracy. Very happy.

For the Aviva according to the manual the test strips are expired.
