thinking about cutting back to 2 tests a day for a while

I am new to all this, but have been testing 4 x a day, however I have only been on the metformin for just over a week, so not sure how much its kicking in yet. My quandary is this, next week, we are going on a vacation ( cruise), so I will be off visiting ports most days & even though I'm going to eat as low carb as I can, it still will not be a normal everyday diet for me. So I was thinking about saving my strips & going gung ho with the testing once I get home again, where I will really be able to see how any one type of lunch or breakfast affects my BG.
Any of your experienced opinions would be welcome

I have times of intense testing that I find really useful to get a better picture of how my BG levels change through the day and with different foods, activities etc... and then I will go for long periods where I let the testing become way more relaxed and infrequent... just keeping a "weather eye" on my BG but not really focused on it every waking hour of the day.

I think you need to live your life and not let D become your life.

Enjoy your cruise

I agree with Frank. Be sure you take your meter with you, though, in case you don't feel right at some point... just because you're working on getting your numbers under control doesn't mean you couldn't possibly go low. So no, I would not test the way I normally do at home, but I would definitely still be careful and take the meter with you, just as a precaution. Have fun!

Enjoy your cruise! We had one in December. You may find you have even better blood sugar control because of all the walking you'll be doing and the lack of everyday stresses. There are TONS of great food options as well. There were several s/f options...I didn't have any of them, preferring just having a bite or two of whatever dessert hubby ordered, or having a cheese plate at meal's end instead of dessert. I usually manage to lose a little weight on a cruise because i'm much more active then.

I'd encourage you to continue testing. Test your fasting level, then test before and after your evening meals. You don't want to get out of the habit of testing....it's too easy to cheat that way, as you don't see the results of your actions unless you test.

Make sure you take along a bottle of water on your excursions, and perhaps a cereal bar or some peanuts in your purse, just in case you need a quick boost.

Bon Voyage!
