Test Solutions

Do you guys use the Control Solutions to check the accuracy of your meters? If so, how often?

I have a OneTouch Ultra2 and I've never tried the Control Solution.

Neither have I, Jeremy . . . mostly because I think I'd have to contact the company to get it for my Walmart ReliOn Ultima. It didn't come with the package & doesn't seem to be available at Walmart stores either. What'll you bet it costs me more to get control solution by such a circuitous route than it would to buy a new meter?

I also wonder if any control solution would work with any meter. It seems like if there's a certain amount of glucose in the solution, all meters should read it the same.

Of course, I don't know how they work, so I'm certainly not sure that's the case.

I use the Wal-Mart, Reli-on Side Kick, comes with a control solution every time. I usually check the first strip out of the box only. Being the science guy, I take the range high-low and determine the midpoint, thats where your control solution should be. Everyone that I have checked has been with in a couple of points to the midpoint.

I have learned, that as much of a hassle it is for me to wash my hands before each test, its better than using another strip because I do not believe the reading of the first time.

If you want the control solution you could use the Medisense control solution meant for the Precision Xtra from the supplier of your choice. The Ultima is a Precision Xtra with some functions disabled.
