Batteries for Meters (from People don't test enough...)

I've had a couple reasons to make sure I have two meters: One, why is the batteries that go in these things are so hard to find? At the moment, I test anywhere from 8 to 10 times per day. If I'm short on cash, I may go a little less, but absolutely try not to. This way, should any lows/highs try to come on, I can react more readily.

They do make AAAA's (I think I saw those cute little things at Best Buy), and I saw some online at Staples...they're kinda cool, but Not widely available should the need arise.

AAAA batteries.. never heard of those before.... only the AAA as the smallest..

Yeah, suprised me too. I got 20 off of eBay for about $14 shipped; I haven't even checked to see what the store costs are.

Guess it's not common knowledge yet, but some of the battery manufactures actually use 6 AAAA batteries in their 9V batteries. You just have to unwrap the case to get to them. So if you need AAAA batteries and are desperate or want to save some money you should be able to find a 9 volt battery about anywhere.

I agree about most people don't test enough. Knowing I have to check keeps me from taking that little bite when it's tempting. So it keeps me honest and even helps on the days I don't check.

Really? You're talking about the battery that has the two posts on top right? The one that is fun to put on your tongue? LOL

That's the ONE! Although I am not sure they all do so you might want to take an old one apart first. I just love taking things apart.

Your Right, and it bugged me so I split the thread. Unfortunatly I had to move some post here that I would have liked to have left copies in the other thread. So don't anyone be offended you did nothing wrong, and you can repost over there if you want.

... When I moved to England, battery in my meter went dead in a matter of weeks. I tried to find the same kind over here but couldn't. I had to get myself another meter.

For this new meter I have, I was told that if the battery goes dead, I just have to send it back to the company and they will send me another one. Yes but how much time will I have to go without a meter... that's the question! Not sure if I like that system. Perhaps I should do like Harold and take the meter apart?

When I used the original Freestyle (I have sense pregressed to the Flash) I couldn't find the AAAA batteries anywhere. Around the same time I stepped on my lancing device and broke the cap (it was the AST cap, so I still had the finger cap and just had to do fingersticks). I called them and told them what happened to the device and that I couldn't find batteries. They overnighted me 6 AAAA batteries (the meter takes 2) and 2 lancing devices.

Good for you, Funnygrl. The money they spent on overnighting to you, they made up in sales to you in a matter of days, if not hours.

Good thing the AAAA's last a long time in the Freestyle since I used to have trouble finding them. My first choice was Walgreen's then Readio Shack. I now have a back-up Freestyle along with an extra pack of batteries.
