T1 vs T2 testing

I am very new to this, so if this has been discussed before please excuse me.

I have been reading the threads and there seems to be a major difference in frequency of testing between the T1s and the T2s. If I am reading things correctly T1's are testing 5 to 10 times daily whereas the T2's are teting once or twice. Is this correct?
I am a new T2. The nurse at the Diabetes clinic recommended I test once a day alternating morning and night, does this match with everyone elses experience?

Hello,

The difference between the T1 and T2 testing is that the T1's are taking insulin and have to monitor their BS's numerous times during the day. People on the pump have to monitor even more then people taking the insulin. I was considered T2 for a short time and I always checked my sugars 4 times a day. Then again that was right when I was diagnosed, and I followed every thing my Dr. told me to do. Even though I am currently pumping I only check about 3 times a day. I feel pretty confident with my current basal rates and I know the signs of my sugar getting high as anything over 300 and I am sickier then a dog.

I too have noticed this difference before and it kind of bothers me. Both type 1 and type 2 need control, just by different means. Type 1 by insulin and type 2 by oral meds and diet and exercise. I think many type 2s should also be checking their sugars before each meal at least that way and can then determine their meal and exercise accordingly the way I would adjust my insulin accordingly. Granted this might not be necessary for everybody but it should be practiced by type 2s who are experiencing high A1cs. Just because your sugar is fine in the morning or in the evening doesn't mean its good all day long. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way. In many ways diabetes is diabetes and one way to help get good control is to find out what your sugars are acutally doing and when. Okay, rant finished. I guess I'm not too busy today ... been posting on a couple forums like crazy!
