I was a little worried about how my BGs were going to be after eating Mexican for lunch (at a restaurant). Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad. On the other hand, I WAS surprised to see a 10-15% increase in BGs from the small overall increase in starchy carbs for the day. I've definitely got to watch those starchy carbs!!

      Just a couple of things:

Eating something just as you wake up might help you stop that rise between wakeup and breakfast. I usually wake up and eat breakfast, but if we're going out with someone, or I'm going to eat breakfast with Mrs. ShottleBop later, I will eat a small avocado after I wake up. It helps keep my before-breakfast reading about where my wake-up was.

Regarding your higher numbers, generally: while your two-hour numbers don't seem out of line, you're eating a fair number of fast-acting carbs. They could be causing spikes between your meal and your two-hour numbers, and generally causing you to have a higher "base" level. Carby snacks between meals (dried fruit, for example) are giving you higher premeal numbers. (I feel your pain; I used to use Fiber One bars and Larabars (dried fruit and dates) for midafternoons until I realized what they were doing to my "base" BGs.) If you can control the amount of nuts you eat at a time, you might find that they work better for you. (I don't always eat snacks, but when I do, they're either a single serving of almonds or macadamia, or a 1/2 oz. of unsweetened baking chocolate, or a heaping tablespoon of coconut oil in a cup of coffee.)

      Yesterday:

      Before breakfast: 84
      Breakfast: the usual
      Two hours PPP: 81

Midmorning snack: coffee with coconut oil (this is common for a workday; sometimes it's a packet of almonds, or a scant handful of macadamias; sometimes I skip the snack, if I'm not feeling peckish).

      Before lunch: 83
Lunch: salmon salad (grilled salmon over romaine, with a few tomatoes, some cucumber, red onions, and slivered almonds, dressed with olive oil), coffee
      Stairs
Two hours PP: 99 (probably overdid the red onions)

Midafternoon snack: 1/2 bag or so of pork rinds (another low-carb option)

      Before dinner: 93
Dinner: roast chicken and cheese omelet, scant handful of pecans, homemade low-carb ice cream
      Two hours PP: 99

Evening snack (something I almost never eat; I find that not eating after dinner really helps my morning numbers): 1/2 oz. baking chocolate, 2 slices provolone

25 mins. stationary bike (took me down to 78)

Stayed up late, to minimize the effect of my evening snack (I find that I need about 3 hours between eating and going to bed to avoid a higher morning number.)

Lost another two pounds this week and the BG numbers have been nice and steady without any significant highs or lows. I've also had lots of energy and none of the usual signs of 'seasonal affective disorder' that I normally get this time of year. Plus, I was happy to see that I could occasionally eat at McDonald's and drink a regular Coke without causing any damage to my BG numbers!
